The summer heat has begun to simmer, no longer sweltering as the colder season draws near. It should be a relief from the last few weeks of constant oppressive heat, but the humidity is somehow worse, leaving Reid's back sticking to the uncomfortable leather seats.

The car's muggy with the smell of old fast food. It would help if takeout containers didn't litter the floor of the backseat, although he's not volunteering to clean, so he'll keep it to himself.

"It turns out, after everything — the baby and the wedding —she's actually his mother."

Kenneth hums in response. He's busy leaning over the car's console, riffling through a duffel bag atop the chaotic backseat. There's an ugly sound of scraping metal.

Reid fidgets with the lock of the car door. "It's kind of unrealistic. How could a guy not know his wife is his mother?"

He watches a few stray people strolling down the sidewalk of the quiet neighbourhood where they're parked. A woman in front of a white, two-story bungalow shouts something angrily into a cell phone pressed against her ear.

Kenneth settles back into the driver's seat. "That's the only problem you have with that trash show." He carefully monitors a man sauntering past their car. Ever vigilant. Even though the windows are dim, making it impossible to see inside unless squashed against the glass.
