In the hallway, outside the room, there's a distant beeping and squeaky wheels against tile as something's pushed by. This wing of the hospital is for recovery, so it's quiet and, unfortunately, very private.

"Get out," Kane says coldly.

Gabriel inhales. "Sit down, Kane." His voice, when Kane was naive and young, was once silvery, the type that beckons people to listen, but Kane knows better, and now the mere sound of it is venom.

It takes everything he has to not comply. It's too powerful to resist. He'd curse the bastard, but the order is heavy in the air, weighing on his body and on his mind, and he's dizzy with it.

Kane clenches his jaw and glares harder, but the slight wobble in his frame has to be noticeable because Gabriel tilts his head with a slow-rising smile.

In the warehouse, the vampire Kane had fought was formidable, but Gabriel's dark influence can't be compared; it's pure authority.

A streak of grey arcs through the air. It smacks Gabriel in the side of the head, breaking the intense eye contact that had Kane almost entranced. Kane takes in a shuddering breath. The makeshift weapon is a pillow. It hits the floor with a soft thump. Gabriel stares down at it intensely.

Reid has pulled himself closer to the head of the bed. He's jostled his injured leg, and it's obvious he'd thrown the pillow it'd been resting upon. His voice has a slight waver. "Don't you dare, not to him."
