Felix
I paced around my room, grabbing all the necessary items for one week abroad. I was going to Australia for a week, to check up on my family.
"Everything checked." I sigh as I close my suitcase and drop it on the floor. "Are you sure, Felix?"
I nodded at the man. "Yeah. Unless you want to go back to your home, you can stay for the week." I confirmed with a smile.
Inyeop frowned. "Oh. Thank you for trusting me with your apartment."
I patted his back and smiled brightly. "You are assuring that the apartment won't be in ruins, plus it's only for a week."
...
Taking deep breaths, I knocked on the door of the home I left years ago, preparing myself mentally to face the person I left years ago.
The door opened and revealed a shocked Lee. I glared at her.
"Felix ㅡ what are you doing here?" She asked, tone full of curiosity and confusion. Rolling my eyes at her I chuckled. "Can't even visit my own father?"
Lee sighed, stepping aside to let me in, I assumed she was cursing Inyeop hyung mentally.
Chuckling silently at the thought, I looked around.
"I've missed this," then my eyes travelled towards the photo frame hung on the wall, "this, too."
Feeling a hand pat my shoulder, I smiled, almost bitterly as I voiced out my thoughts.
"Why wouldn't you tell me you were coming here, Lee?" I turned to my sister, continuing, "Why would you never tell me about my father's health?"
She was speechless.
"You have no answer, why?" I ask her again, my voice almost cracking due to the pressure of holding back the tears.
Sniffles and sobs were released from my mouth while I continued speaking.
"Why would I have to learn about my father's health condition from someone else, and not you?"
The older girl opened her mouth to speak but stopped. I walked away from her, sitting on the old, beige coloured couch.
Pitter patter of footsteps on the carpet grabbed my attention and I looked up at the person who seemed to enter the scene.
My eyes watered at the sight of the old man. He had become so weak, I could see his skull. His sunken eyes and such vulnerable state made me want to go back to the past and change my decision of ever leaving him alone here in Australia.
"Lee, Is there a guest in the house? I think I heard ㅡ" He stopped himself mid-sentence when his eyes met me. Standing up, I started making my way towards him.
"ㅡ You've, you've come back Felix?" He asked, uncertain if I was here to stay. I didn't answer but cried.
I hid my head in my palms, crying out my heart. I couldn't hug him. I was a horrible son and I didn't have the right to be close to him now.
Suddenly, I felt a pair of weak, bony hands wrap around my body and pull me close. I smiled.
"Dad.. I've ㅡ" a hiccup cut me off, "ㅡ missed you."
He didn't answer me but his hands lay comfortingly on my back, rubbing me to console me.
After I finished sobbing, he let go off me and look at me with a soft, fatherly smile. "I'm sorry." He uttered.
