Arc 9: Everything on the Line

---

"Emanon! I brought breakfast." Gabi announced as she entered the ship's infirmary. Emanon didn't turn to greet Gabi but the younger cadet tried not to take any offence to it. It wasn't like any of them were in that great of a mood - the entire world was being crushed. Although she must have wanted to, Emanon couldn't have helped the others even if she tried. Her wounds likely wouldn't withstand the stress of fighting Titans.

Gabi placed the small plate of food on Emanon's bedside table. The brunette waited for her companion to say something to her but nothing came. Did Emanon even realise that Gabi was in the room in the first place?

"Emanon...?" The young girl reached out toward Emanon only to have her hand caught in a tight grip. Shocked, Gabi pulled away immediately.

"Gabi! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to-" Emanon's apology was quickly cut short when a jolt of pain shot through her. Gabi noticed a pink tint in Emanon's facial features, as well as a puffiness around her eyes. Something about Gabi's expression must have revealed that she realised Emanon had been crying as Emanon quickly turned away from the young girl. "Thanks for the food Gabi, but I'm not hungry right now. I'll eat later."

Gabi looked at the food she had brought and then back to Emanon. "It's important to eat after a battle. Your wounds won't heal properly if you're hungry."

"What does it matter? It's not like I'm a Titan Shifter or something. I'll heal as slowly as any other human does whether or not I'm hungry."

"Yes but..." Gabi trailed away. She could see Emanon's hands tightly gripping the sheets of her bed. Her wounds would probably open if she continued gripping so tightly but Gabi couldn't find it in herself to say anything about it. In fact, she couldn't seem to say anything at all.

"How's Falco?" Emanon asked, her voice now soft.

"He was awake for a little while last night, but he fell back asleep about an hour before sunrise. He seemed pretty exhausted after everything, but all of his wounds are-" Gabi stopped herself again. Her chest felt tight and it made her feel heavier than usual. "He feels really bad about hurting you while he was in his Titan form. He hasn't come to see you yet because of that."

"I see." The older girl replied, her grip on her bedsheets loosening. "I'm glad he's alright."

"You know-" The young cadet started, only to be cut off by the sound of Falco calling for Gabi as he ran around the halls of the ship.

"Gabi! Gabi, where are you? I need to tell you something that I saw something in my-" Falco stopped in his tracks when he saw Gabi - though technically when he saw Emanon. As he stepped further into the room, his expression shifted.

"Good morning Falco. Are you well rested?" Questioned Emanon.

"Emanon... I-" Falco couldn't find it in himself to give a proper response to Emanon's question. Despite how kindly she had spoken, Falco assumed that she must be mad at him. The fact that the bandages around her arms were there because of him made him feel awful. He hadn't meant to hurt her, but that didn't change the fact that he did. "I'm so, so sorry about hurting you! I swear I wasn't trying to hurt you, I was only trying to-"

"That doesn't matter right now." Emanon replied, her tone suddenly more stern than before. She suddenly shook her head, her grip on her bed sheets tightening once more. "You uh... you were running around the halls of the ship to tell Gabi something... so you should do that."

"But I-"

"But you what? Do you think I hate you for what you did?" Falco nodded slowly and Emanon's grip tightened in response. "...I may not love these injuries, but that doesn't mean I've suddenly stopped caring about you; and I know that (Y/n) doesn't hate you either. So with that in mind, would you mind sharing what you so eagerly came over to tell Gabi?"
