Arc 10: Winners of War
---
Ymir Fritz was the first person to obtain the power of the Titans. She was a slave of the Eldian King who abused her power to bring prosperity to Eldia while devastating every other nation that crossed its path. For thirteen years, Eldia prospered thanks to the powers granted to Ymir. She spent her life serving the King and died to protect him. When the King realised his greatest weapon had died, he forced Ymir's daughters, Maria, Rose and Sheena, to consume their mother's corpse.
Now having the powers of Titans for themselves, Maria, Rose and Sheena were ordered to have as many children as possible and upon their own deaths, allow their spines to be eaten by their own children so that their powers could be passed on. This was repeated over and over again until Ymir's powers found themselves split into ten different forms.
It is often believed that each Titan form is the manifestation of a trait that the founder, Ymir, had.
The Armoured Titan is equipped with armour and is seen as the embodiment of protection.
There is speculation that the Attack Titan has the ability to see into the future, embodying the very essence of freedom as it always falls into the hands of those who are the most oppressed.
The Beast Titan has animalistic traits and is often bestowed upon those with great intelligence.
The Cart Titan possesses an endless amount of stamina and is often given to Eldians who embody Ymir's loyalty.
The Colossal Titan is used to cause mass destruction, though it ultimately embodies the anger and frustration of those with a passive nature.
The Female Titan has the greatest adaptability of all the Titans and can be interpreted as the manifestation of being underestimated.
The Founding Titan can manipulate Eldians and is the embodiment of Ymir's will and strongest desires.
The Jaw Titan is the fastest, though the smallest, of all the different forms. Those who inherit the Jaw Titan often embody the willingness to sacrifice oneself for others.
The Warhammer Titan is blessed with the power of creation while also being a representation of Ymir's fighting abilities.
The final of Ymir's ten Titan forms is the Crystal Titan. This form is rumoured to be the embodiment of Ymir's heartbreak and misfortune, thus the reason why many regard this Titan's powers as a curse. Although its powers may appear to be creation, the true power behind the Crystal Titan is the uncanny connection between the predecessors and successors of this Titan.
Crystal Titan Shifters do not draw power solely from Ymir. Rather, they draw power from every Crystal Shifter that came before them, as well as the ones who will follow. That isn't to say that Crystal Titan Shifters are not connected to Ymir, but that Crystal Shifters share a unique bond between predecessors and successors that other Titan Shifters do not.
Someone cannot truly understand another unless subjected to a terrible heartbreak. This is the reason why every Crystal Titan Shifter will lose all that they love.
These Titan Shifters watch the loves of their lives get taken away, get killed or simply love others instead. Then, as if they could not lose any more of themselves, Crystal Shifters must sacrifice their lives to save the one person who managed to survive alongside themselves; their successor.
Because the power of a Crystal Shifter lies within the memories and souls of previous Titan Shifters, Ymir cannot easily call upon their powers. Thus is the reason why Crystal Shifters are liabilities in the eyes of the founder.
