It was Hannah. She hurriedly strode to where (Y/n) was standing.

"(Y/n), I'm so sorry I'm late", she apologized, keeping her voice low.

Although a little annoyed at her delay, (Y/n) nodded in understanding. "It's okay, I'm glad that you're here now. Let's get the car and go."

The two girls jogged as quietly as possible over to Brayden's car. As they neared the vehicle, they collectively heard the crunch of gravel not far off. Hannah looked at (Y/n) in fear. They quickened their pace.

(Y/n) fumbled with the keys, pressing the unlock button. A click sounded, signifying that the car was now open. Hannah practically dove into the passenger seat and waited for her companion to take her position as driver.

She entered, obtaining her seat at the wheel. The girl hesitated for a fraction of a second to breathe deeply. She had done the hardest part. It would be smooth sailing from here on.

(Y/n) spoke too soon.

The passenger door was suddenly flung open. Hannah snapped her head around to see the intruder. As she did so, the right half of her face was blown off. (Y/n) shrieked as her friend's blood splashed across her upper body.

Ray's face leered at the girl, his left hand reaching for her arm, his right still gripping the gun. What remained of Hannah's form fell back into the seat.

(Y/n) didn't pause to think. Her mind was blank as she opened her own door and sprinted off into the darkness. She could hear Ray behind her. She wondered vaguely if he planned to shoot at her.

Legs burning, mind aching with adrenaline, (Y/n) ran for her life and her freedom. She headed toward the gate, her only chance. Surprisingly enough, the girl made it. She exited the property, but that was not enough. The enclosed land unfortunately did not contain Ray, as he too, chased (Y/n) into the outside world.

Another shot sounded. Out of the corner of her eye, (Y/n) saw the bullet hit the dirt beside her. She began to run in a zig-zag pattern, to avoid being harmed. Two more shots echoed in the night. (Y/n) ran on and on, seeking a place of refuge, but finding none.

Finally, it happened. The inevitable. The girl fell to the ground as pain coursed through her, traveling from her calf to every fiber of her being. She clutched at it, trying to stem the flow of blood. The moon appeared from behind a cloud, illuminating the damage.

A voice made a noise of irritation from above her.

"Well, what did you expect, doll?" It asked roughly, yet there was a touch of sympathy in the tone.

Ray bent down, inspecting her wound. "We'll have to dig that bullet out later."

He offered a hand. (Y/n) gave it a glance of disgust before turning stubbornly away. The boy scoffed.

"I'm taking you to a different location. Now, take my hand and I'll help you walk. Quit sulking." He grabbed her arm, pulling her up into a standing position and throwing her arm over his shoulder to better support her.

"Why the hell did you shoot me!?" She shoved him, but he stayed where he was.

"Couldn't have you running away from me like that", he explained simply.

Although Ray stabilized her walking for the most part, her calf still pained her whenever she took a step. But she gritted her teeth, working through the agony. Suddenly, her adrenaline wore off, and she remembered the image of Hannah's grotesque head, blown to shreds by Ray's gun. The girl shook slightly. Ray noticed and looked at her, concerned.

"Are you cold?"

She didn't respond.

"I said, are you cold?" He poked her side, trying to initiate some sort of response. They were almost back at the gate now.
