(Y/n) caught a glimpse of the approaching figure, but, whoever it was, quickly backed away, back into the shadows. The sound of footsteps on gravel died immediately. She felt the person's eyes on her, intently observing her next action.
"Who's there?" She asked, whispering at first. Then, gaining courage, she called in a slightly louder voice, "Who's there?"
There was no answer, but the crunch of gravel was heard once more. The hidden figure was on the move, but not advancing toward her. Instead, it circled the girl, as a predator stalks around its prey. There was something strange about the noise. It sounded like something was dragging on the ground.
Like... an injured leg!
With this hint, her mind quickly realized who it was in the dark. There was only one person at the estate who got their leg wounded.
Good. This means I can outrun him.
All thoughts of waiting for Hannah vanished now that Leo's presence was near. (Y/n) prepared to bolt, but halted as his voice rang out.
"Why did you have to escape, (N/n)?" Leo said with sorrow in his tone. He continued circling under the cover of the night. "I really hoped you wouldn't... I even took away your rope."
Well, that's that mystery solved, (Y/n) thought. Not that it matters now.
"Though I couldn't be too sure, so I stayed up late just in case. And when I heard you moving your bed around, I knew you were probably planning some other way of escape, but I never dreamed you would still exit through the window. So, I guarded the door instead, however, when you never came, I started to get a little anxious and walked outside."
"Why are you telling me this?" (Y/n) asked.
He ignored her question. "I'm glad that I noticed something was off. It's a shame, really. I thought you were finally settling into your new home... You were having so much fun with us today."
"That was an act, dumbass."
"Was it, (N/n)?" Leo stopped pacing. "It seemed pretty real to me. Maybe, deep down, you actually like being here? With us?"
"That's n-not true", she denied.
"Maybe you actually want someone to treat you like we do? You enjoy our love. You deny, deny, deny, but you actually crave the attention we give you. The attention that your mother never provided. If you escaped now, you would go home regretting your decision. You would miss us."
(Y/n) shook, half angry, half frightened.
Is he right...- NO! I can't think about that. It's sick!
"SHUT UP!"
"There you go again. Denying." Leo sighed. "Let's go back now, (Y/n). I'm sure that you're tired."
She broke into a sprint, aiming to exit out the gate. However, she was tackled almost immediately.
How-?
She gasped, feeling the boy's crushing weight on her. While talking, he had managed to maneuver himself around her, guessing which direction she might try to run in. She had been entangled in his words and was now trapped underneath his body.
"Back to the house, now", he ordered, pulling her up, yet keeping a tight grip on her shoulder.
The march back to the building was silent for the most part, except for (Y/n) asking a question she needed the answer to.
"Where is Hannah?"
"Dead", he said simply. "Tobias did his job."
The girl choked up. "You devils..."
