Woman's Song

There was a beautiful nurse who popped in to check in on a patient. She was new but wise and kind.

Three women were in the room. The patient, the nurse, and the daughter of the patient. While news played in the background and machines beeped, all three began to talk.

First, regarding vitals and additional patient information.

Second, the most recent updates within the news. A shooter was recently captured after firing in a hospital wounding 4 women and killing another.

Third, anything the patient needed. Water with ice, ice packs, and hot water so her daughter could make her hot mint tea.

Forth, holistic practices and the pain of having abdominal surgery.

A conversation flowed from one subject to the next. I carried them beyond knowing names and faces. Being race, beyond gender, and well beyond the self-focused nature that we all can have at times.

There was the melody beyond the ages. The song of a mother, the song of a daughter, the song of a caregiver. All parts blended in beautiful harmony as each person could identify with each other. That bond that binds all women together. The song of women in every walk of life.

There is beauty in the identity we all share.
