Goodbye's are not forever

The low hum of the darksaber resonated in my ears as I walked down a dark imperial corridor. The child was perched in my arms, his little hands clutching onto the fabric of my clothes. Din was walking beside me with the darksaber ignited in his grasp. The glowing blade was pointed at Moff Gideon who was trudging reluctantly in front of us.

The door in front of us slid open to reveal the bridge. Din shoved Moff Gideon forward and he stumbled into the room. Bo-Katan was standing at the front of the bridge and she had a strange look on her face. I have a feeling it had something to do with Din holding the darksaber. I'm just not sure why.

I walked just behind Din as he pushed Moff Gideon into the center of the bridge. Bo-Katan's eyes seemed to keep getting wider as she walked forward to meet us.

"What happened?" She asked

"They brought him in alive, that's what happened. And now the New Republic's gonna have to double the payment." Cara said as she walked up to us. She placed her hand on the child's arm gently, I could tell she was happy to see him again.

"That's not what she's talking about. Why don't you kill him now and take it?" Moff Gideon said ominously to Bo-Katan. I immediately tensed up at his words. Cara stepped forward and roughly grabbed his arm, pushing him down onto the floor.

Moff Gideon was slumped on the steps of the bridge with an annoying smile on his face. "It's yours now."

"What is?" Din asked

"The darksaber. It belongs to you." Moff Gideon said, he almost looked smug for some weird reason.

The air was tense as Din retracted the blade back into its hilt. He stepped up to Bo-Katan with his hand outstretched, trying to hand it over to her.

"Now...it belongs to her." Din said, but Bo-Katan made no move to take it from him.

"She can't take it. It must be won in battle. In order for her to wield the darksaber again, she would need to defeat you in combat." Moff Gideon said. His eyes were shining with amusement as he looked up at them from his place on the stairs.

"I yield. It's yours." Din argued

"Oh, no." Moff Gideon chuckled happily. "It doesn't work that way. The darksaber doesn't have power. The story does." Moff Gideon rose up from his place on the floor.

"Without that blade, she's a pretender to the throne." Moff Gideon said. Din still hadn't lowered his hand down, waiting for Bo-Katan to take the blade.

"He's right." Bo-Katan said

"Come on, just take it." Din attempted to plead with her. Immediately after Din spoke, an alarm started to blare throughout the bridge. I tensed up and looked around the area, searching for the source of the annoyingly loud noise.

"Well, perhaps she'll get another crack at it." Moff Gideon said as Bo-Katan walked over to Koska who was looking at the controls.

"The ray shields have been breached. We're being boarded." Fennec said as she looked over one of the control centers.

"How many life forms?" Bo-Katan asked

"None." Fennec said

"Dark troopers." I said tensely. This was not good.

"You're about to face off with the dark troopers. You had your hands full with one. Let's see how you do against a platoon." Moff Gideon said to Din and I. His tone of voice exposed his evident smugness.

I glanced over to one of the security cameras and saw the large platoon of dark troopers marching through the halls. My heart leapt to my throat and I tightened my grip on the child. I can't let them take the child from me again.
