Ruby
Color of the stop signs
And the tips of my fingers
I grasp while you weep
The color of mailbox flags and lipstick
The blush in my face after red wine and a fire lit night
I wish you could live
That way, too
Ruby
The embers in your eyes are never
Extinguished by your tears
Wish I could embrace you
Tonight
And for many days to come
If I hug you
You would hate me
Stain my white dress with
Rubies
Ruby roses
Ruby jewels
Ruby paintings
I wish you could see beauty
Too
Ruby
Strong and bitter like honey
Oh honey, don't you cry
I've been through this before
I know your story
I am no stranger to bittersweet
If I hug you and you would hate me
And hit me away
But Ruby
Running won't solve your heartache
I, for one, am here
To stay.
