Lennie's POV

I was dreading going back to school. I didn't want to face Jay, but I had to.

I had spent part of the day yesterday ranting to Ronnie about how nervous I was. We actually had a wonderful time besides that, we did literally everything.

"Hey." Josh greeted, while bumping into me.

"Hi." I said. I looked at his face, and was alarmed to see his lip, red and busted. "Oh my god, what happened?!"

"My lip?" Josh asked. "Uh, Sammy hit me with the chair."

"How did he hit you with the chair?"

"I was bending over, and he slid his chair back. It me really hard, and my lips were already chapped." He explained. I felt like there was a lie somewhere in there, but I shrugged it off.

"Does it hurt?" I asked. It looked nasty, like it would be painful to talk.

"Just a bit." He said. "But it looks cool, doesn't it?"

"You look like an idiot." I said. He scoffed at me, only making me laugh at him.

"So, how are you holding up?"

"I'm fine." I said. "Dreading it, but it'll be fine."

"If you need literally anything, just text me." He said.

"I will."

We goofed off the whole class period, our teacher wasn't there. I couldn't help but wonder. Was he ever going to make a move? He liked me, right? It's very rare that I believe the guy likes me, but it actually seems rational to believe he likes me.

I braced myself before walking in the doorway. I made my way to my seat, trying to figure how to go about this.

I put my things down, waiting for the teacher to appear. I was fidgeting with my fingers when Jay walked in.

He gave me a cold look, yet it looked a bit scared. As I looked more at his face, I had a startling realization.

Josh fought Jay.

Jay had a matching busted lip, accompanied with a bruised eye. I nearly lost my breath. At least, I think that means Josh won.

Jay hurried to the other side of the room, taking a seat beside another boy. I was worried he had told people what he did. I had nothing to be ashamed of, but people would talk. And, what did he tell people about his obvious black eye?

A girl I remembered as 'Frankie,' sat down beside me.

"Hey." She greeted immediately.

"Hi." I said, shyly. I hadn't spoke to her before, and I wasn't sure if Jay had told her something.

"I'm Frankie, incase you hadn't picked it up yet." She smiled.

"Yeah, I know your name. I love it, by the way." I said.

"Well, thanks. Lots of people think it's weird, but I love it." She smiled. She was really sweet, I already liked her better than Jay.

"Hey, can I ask you a question?" I asked, after dancing around it for a bit too long.

"Shoot."

"Did Jay by any chance tell you why he switched with you?" I asked.

"No, he just said he wanted to sit closer to his friends." She said. "Then he showed up with that black eye, it's weird."

"Yeah, that is weird." I said. I was glad to hear he didn't seem to be telling people. I wish I could rat him out as the person he is though.

"Josh!" I called, fighting to catch up with him. He turned around at hearing his name, smiling at me. He stopped to wait for me.
