Lennie's POV

I was sitting in my room, doing absolutely nothing. I was dreading every part of the upcoming week. School was going to be starting. I was grateful I at least had a few people I could rely on.

I was hanging out in Lacey's room when my phone went off.

Answer

What?

Do you wanna hangout?

When?

Right now

I'm not dressed to go out

I'll wait for you

I thought for a moment about the pros and cons. Yeah, I wasn't gonna miss this opportunity.

Okay
I'll be ready in like 5 minutes

I'll be waiting in the car

I quickly hurried out of Lacey's room, leaving her confused. I grabbed the cutest, last minute outfit I could find. I was rushing to get ready when I realized I hadn't asked my mom.

"Mom!" I called as I hurried down the hall.

"What?"

"Would you mind if I hung out with Josh?" I asked.

"What are you guys gonna do?" She asked.

"I'm not sure." I said. "He just asked if I wanted to hangout."

"It's okay, as long as you keep your hands to yourself."

"Mom, please don't say things like that." I begged.

"Stop complaining and go." She said. I did just as she said and headed outside to Josh.

"Hi." I smiled as I got in the passenger seat.

"Hello." He smiled. He began to pull out as I got buckled up.

"How are you doing on this lovely day, Lennie?" He asked.

"I'm doing fine, Joshua, how about you?" I asked.

"It's better now." He said, a stupid smirk on his face. Did he really just say that?

"Was there a certain reason you decided to hangout with me, or did you just miss me?" I teased. I was obviously joking, not nearly confident enough to be serious.

"I missed you, of course." He played along. "And I some need things for school, so I figured I'd take you with me."

"How kind of you." I said. "Now that you say it, I need some things too."

"It worked out then." He said happily. I smiled to myself, glad to be with him. I would use any excuse to hangout with him.

We pulled up to a supplies store to get the basic necessities. Josh talked the whole time. He always had so much to say, and it was always enthusiastically.

"Are you nervous?" Josh asked.

"About what?"

"School." He said.

"Oh." I said. "Well, yeah, but I'm trusting that it'll work out."

"It will. You'll have me to help you out." He gave me a little wink, only making me laugh at him.

"How do I know you won't try and sabotage me?" I asked.

"Now, why would I ever do that?" He asked.

"You're ornery, there's no telling what you'll do."
