Her phone buzzing against her hand made Oakley jump before hastily swiping to answer to, seeing Kayce's name on the screen.

"Kayce?" Oakley asked, almost out of breath.

"Hey baby," Kayce's voice sounded like heaven to Oakley's worried ears.

"Are you alright?" Oakley asked.

"M'fine," Kayce murmured. "Have you been worried?"

"Don't get cute with me, Dutton," Oakley snapped. "You know what you do to me when you go off in the night trying to play good cop bad cop."

"I'm sorry," Kayce sighed. "I'm fine...everyone on our side is fine."

"What about the other side?" You asked softly.

"There's my Oaks," Kayce said and Oakley could almost hear the smile in his voice. "Two were arrested, four were killed in gunfire."

"Kayce," Oakley closed her eyes, not enjoying the images flashing across her mind.

"I'm fine, baby," Kayce said again. "We're on our way back. I should be home in thirty minutes."

"Hurry, please," Oakley smiled. "Be safe."

"Love you," Kayce whispered before he hung up.

Oakley called Beth, seeing as she knew Rip was probably the one driving if Kayce was able to fully attend to her questioning.

"They're on their way back," Oakley said once Beth answered.

"Kayce called you?" Beth asked.

"Yeah," Oakley sighed. "A while ago I promised him I'd walk away if he didn't communicate with me better."

"Wow," Beth laughed.

"What?" Oakley felt uneasy.

"Nothing," Beth sighed. "He just...you two are perfect for each other."

"I just don't want him to get hurt," Oakley stood up from the bed.

Beth was quiet for a moment.

"Thanks for loving my brother," She said almost in a whisper.

"How are you?" Oakley asked, ignoring the lump in her throat. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine," Beth was back to sounding like herself. "I still look like Rip put me through a fucking wall, but I'll heal."

"Have you uh...found anything on that company Kayce asked you about?" Oakley asked. "Epix, or whatever?"

"Nope, haven't come up with anything," Beth answered and Oakley stopped walking.

She sounded weird, not like Beth at all.

"Beth?" Oakley straightened her shoulders.

"What?" Beth asked.

"Kayce did talk to you about Epix, right?"

"Sure," Beth answered. "But I haven't found anything yet on them."

"But they're a subsidiary of where you used to work, right?" Oakley looked at her reflection in the mirror. "It wouldn't have taken you this long to do some research on something you would have already known about."

"Do you want to do the research?" Beth bit back.

"You have found out something, haven't you?" Oakley felt sick to her stomach. "And you've told Kayce about it too, right?"

Beth didn't say anything.

"Beth, what did you find out?" Oakley asked. Headlights came through the living room windows and she knew Kayce was home. "What is Epix?"
