It was early when Oakley woke up.
The sun was barely rising and even though it was Sunday, it would not be a day of rest. Glancing over at her clock, she saw it was only a little past six. Oakley took a deep breath before snuggling back down into her pillow, her arms wrapped around Tate.
Last night, Tate had crawled into the bed with them. Oakley had pulled the covers back, leaning away from Kayce some so Tate could fit. While she could see some annoyance in Kayce's eyes, it quickly was replaced with adoration as Tate fit perfectly against Oakley. Once Tate had been settled, Oakley reached with her arm over to Kayce, placing her hand against his cheek for a while as they stared at one another.
Kayce moving made Oakley look over to see him awake. He rubbed his hand over his face before his eyes looked over at Oakley. She smiled at Kayce, trying to not make what they had to do in a few hours immediately take over their day. Kayce sat up in the bed, glancing down at Tate before he leaned over his son, his lips pressing a kiss to Oakley's forehead.
Oakley watched Kayce get out of bed and walk into the bathroom, sliding the door almost shut. A few moments later she heard the shower start. Tate snuggled into Oakley's chest more before she felt him slip back into a deep sleep. Oakley's fingers gently ran up and down Tate's back as she waited for Kayce to finish.
When the sliding door moved back, Kayce walked out with a towel around his waist and over to the closet. When he emerged again, he was dressed in jeans and a dark green button-down, white socks on his feet. Kayce walked over to Oakley's side of the bed and sat down next to her, leaning his one hand over both her and Tate so he could hover over Oakley some.
Oakley reached out with her arm, not under Tate, and pulled Kayce closer to her. Their lips met in a silent kiss. Oakley was still highly sensitive from yesterday, the fight with Kayce, and the learning of Tate being kidnapped...there was a part of her that wished she and Kayce didn't have to go meet her brother. She wished they could all stay in bed today, and be safe from whatever was outside their front door.
"M'gonna make some coffee," Kayce mumbled against Oakley's lips.
"One more," Oakley pleaded, leaning up to kiss Kayce again, his beard tickling her skin.
Kayce leaned back with a chuckle as the kiss ended. He brushed some of Oakley's hair out of her face before he stood up and walked out of the bedroom. Oakley looked down at Tate and slowly wiggled out from underneath him. Once she knew he was still asleep Oakley made her way into the bathroom to get ready for the day.
Finishing up the last button on her shirt, Oakley looked back at Tate who was still asleep in the bed. She shook her head with a smile, wishing she still had the ability to sleep through most things. Oakley closed the bedroom door softly, walking out into the living room to the smell of coffee. Kayce had lit the fire and was sitting next to it, a mug in his hand. He eyed Oakley as she went into the kitchen and pour herself a cup.
Oakley walked back over to Kayce and sat down next to him, his arm sitting on the back of the couch, but falling across her shoulders as she leaned into him. They were both quiet for a few minutes, still waking up and assessing their morning.
"Oaks," Kayce started, his voice rough.
"I'll do whatever you need me to," Oakley interrupted him.
She hadn't slept much last night, her mind playing every which way the situation could potentially go. She came to the conclusion around three in the morning that she needed to listen to Kayce and follow his lead. This was his specialty.
"I didn't mean," Kayce started against but Oakley cut him off.
"No, you're right," Oakley sighed, looking at him. "We can't go into this thinking everything will work out and my brother is who I think is on the other end of that phone. So I'm going to follow your lead...you make the plan, tell me what I need to do to help."
