I'm so sorry Miss. Dobson, but we are going to go with another candidate who is more qualified.
Oakley sighed as she read her email on Kayce's laptop. This was her first rejection, and she knew there would probably be more. While Montana was big area-wise, the job pool was not, and she was finding it a little difficult to figure out what was next for her. Three days ago, she had started to look, not liking her odds with the state anymore, and with yesterday's phone call solidifying her employment there, or lack of, Oakley knew she needed to be proactive even more now.
A coffee mug was held in front of her face, making her smile as she grabbed it with both hands. Kayce maneuvered to sit behind her in the chair at the small table in the foreman's cabin. Tate was still passed out on the couch so the two of them had been pretty silent the past hour they were both awake. It was still dark outside.
"There are other chairs," Oakley murmured, taking a sip of the coffee.
Kayce ran his hands up her thighs, his fingers dipping underneath his boxers on Oakley's legs. Oakley was currently in a pair of Kayce's boxers and one of his t-shirts, her hair pulled up in a messy ponytail. She had giggled earlier when Kayce walked out in almost matching clothes.
Kayce moved his hand around her waist, while the other pushed her hair to the side so he could kiss her neck. Oakley sighed, but she couldn't fully relax due to the email she still could read in front of her.
"What's wrong?" Kayce whispered against her skin.
Oakley showed him the email and as he read, she turned her head to kiss his temple, her lips then moving to his ear.
"I think this is gonna be harder than I thought," Oakley sighed.
Kayce reached over and shut the laptop, wrapping both his arms around Oakley.
"Stay here with me and work on the ranch," He looked at her.
"Doing what?" Oakley laughed. "Your dad doesn't need an environmentalist expert like me."
"There's always something that needs work here," Kayce shrugged. "You'd be surprised what you would be doing."
"I'm not a wrangler, Kace," Oakley sighed. "I barely know how to saddle a horse."
"Well..." He thought for a moment. "I could get you pregnant and you'd have your duties then?"
Oakley's eyes widened as she leaned back in Kayce's arms. Her mind went blank at how nonchalant Kayce seemed with his suggestion.
"I-I mean...we can't..." Oakley stuttered.
"I'm kidding," Kayce smirked.
"That's not funny," Oakley rolled her eyes.
"Your face was funny," Kayce pulled her closer again.
"Please be serious about this," Oakley shook her head.
"I was serious about that," Kayce licked his lips.
"About you getting me pregnant?" Oakley tilted her head to the side. "We are not ready for that at all, Kayce."
"Doesn't mean I haven't thought about it," Kayce shrugged.
"When have you thought about it?" Oakley asked him, intrigued now with the topic. She didn't want a baby right now by any means, but that didn't mean she didn't want a baby eventually.
"Probably our whole relationship," Kayce answered.
Oakley looked forward, seeing the foreman's cabin before her. Her eyes glanced around the space, pausing extra long on where Tate was sleeping. It was different though, thinking about children with Kayce, this time because Oakley felt calm. She wasn't freaking out on him.
