Author's Note – so everyone knows story lines and such – remember, this universe never went through most of season four and all of season five. Obviously, Kayce and Monica never had a second pregnancy. This may be a little rough for some people, I respect you, I see you and hear you. Thank you.
Oakley's tired eyes blinked open in the sunlight coming through the bedroom window. It was later in the morning; she could automatically tell. What she didn't understand was how both Kayce and Tate got up without waking her.
Last night she was sandwiched between the two of them. Kayce's arms wrapped around her from behind as Tate nestled against her chest as he slept. While it was a little too warm for Oakley, she quickly fell asleep...and stayed asleep.
She sat up, stretching out her arms with a big yawn. There was a pinch in her side that made her wince. She dropped her arms and sat there for a moment but felt fine. Her clock showed it was almost nine. Both Kayce and Tate would be gone by now...so why hadn't Kayce woken her up?
After washing her face, brushing her teeth, and changing, Oakley walked past the living room into the kitchen. There were bowls from breakfast in the sink so at least Kayce made sure Tate had breakfast. Oakley grabbed an apple and saw Kayce's truck parked out front still. She walked over to the front door, opening it up and glancing around but didn't see him.
Pulling her phone out from her back pocket, Oakley called Kayce.
"Hey baby," Kayce's voice was smooth.
"Good morning," Oakley smiled. "You didn't wake me up?"
"Wanted you to sleep," Kayce said. "You were exhausted...didn't move at all during the night. Stayed in my arms even when I tried to get Tate up."
"I was tired," Oakley sighed. "I'm still tired...sorry."
"Don't be sorry," Kayce chuckled. "How are you feeling now?"
"Better," Oakley said. "Still a little sleepy but I'll wake up here...where are you?"
"Still missing me?"
Oakley could hear the smirk on his lips, and she rolled her eyes. Why couldn't Kayce just let her be needy for him without making it a big deal? She took a bite of her apple.
"Do you miss me?" Oakley challenged.
"Always," Kayce laughed. "But I'm at the barn right now."
"Thought you had to go to the Jameson's place this morning?" Oakley pulled over a pair of her boots.
"I'm finishing up here and then I will," Kayce said. "You wanna come with me?"
"I'm putting my boots on," Oakley smiled.
"Give me fifteen and I'll be back up," Kayce said.
"Alright," Oakley leaned back up. "I love you."
"Love you," Kayce hung up.
Kayce was earlier than he said, walking through the front door around ten minutes later. Oakley was pulling on her jacket as he smiled at her.
"What were you doing down there?" She asked as she zipped up her jacket.
"Went for a ride this morning after I took Tate to school," Kayce answered.
"It's freezing Kayce," Oakley looked at him like he was crazy. "Why did you go for a ride?"
"Just needed to clear my head," Kayce shrugged.
Oakley paused pulling her hair into a ponytail and looked over at him.
