Carson heard the bedroom door open from inside, guess it was pretty naive of her to think they would actually leave her alone. When she looked to her left she saw Phil climbing out the window and sitting next to her.

"Hey Phil."

"Hey bub. Whatcha doing out here?"

"I just needed to think."

"Have you been out here all night?"

"Yeah.."

Carson sighed out as she glanced over at Phil and away from the beautiful morning sky.

"I guess Tommy had a nightmare so he came out here with me for a while."

"Thank you for taking care of him."

"Oh its alright. I don't mind.. we had a really nice talk anyway."

"Really? Im glad that you're talking to him more."

Phil smiled and raised an eyebrow at Carson. It was good that Carson was getting close to Tommy. He was glad she was finally finding people to talk to here. Even if he wasn't one of those people.

"He's a good kid.. You raised him well."

"I've tried my best. Not that im the only one to give credit to though."

"What do you mean?"

"My wife, the boys mum. She raised them just as much as me."

"How long ago did she pass?"

Carson tried to be soft with her wording, remembering how Tommy had told her that the way she talks makes her seem cruel sometimes.

"Four years. Did Tommy tell you she died?"

"Yeah he mentioned it. How did she die?"

"Car crash, she was on her way home from work one day when a semi tuck lost control and hit her head on."

"Im sorry. That must of been pretty hard to cope with."

"Yeah it was. The boys still have a hard time talking about it.. I miss her too but i think i coped better then the three downstairs."

"Well you did a good job. Ive lost plenty of people who meant a whole lot to me too. Its really hard to take it and still be a good person."

"Y'know you're a good person too, Carson. With the things you've been through, thats also really impressive."

"Im not sure i know what you mean Phil."

"Im saying you're a good kid."

The girl found herself scoffing at the statement. Good kid? Carson was anything but good. She bounced from home to home for two years, each one seemingly worse then the last. She wasn't kicked out for nothing.

"You don't believe me?"

Phil asked softly and Carson could help but laugh slightly

"No, not really."

"And whys that?"

"Phil, you and me have both seen my record. Im not exactly the prime example of a 'good kid'. You don't need to lie to me."

"And what if i say im not lying? I have seen your record Carson, doesn't mean i believe everything it says about you."

She scoffed again

"Well that would be a first"

"Yeah kids tell me that alot."

"So why do you believe me over them?"
