{TW! Mentions of suicide. And also, I might switch to Cakey's and Slurpee's "legal" names, or else some scenes will sound goofy asf}

Slurpee hung up, leaving Cakey frozen in place. She wasn't sure how to process this, it seemed so unreal. After what felt like hours, she managed to put the phone back in place.

Tamari smiled at her. "Are we going?"

Cakey couldn't even form a fake smile on her face, her tiredness made her believe that everything around her was a fever dream. "Sure," she flatly replied without even looking back at Tamari.

When they were back in the mirrored world, they met Nana in the guest room as always, eating from a bowl. "Ah, hello there," she greeted and waved. "C'mere, I still have some Mac and Cheese left." She stood up from her chair and walked to the kitchen, then grabbed two bowls to fill them with food.

Cakey sat down next to Tamari at one of the circular tables, contemplating in silence.

Her mom was dead. The one who was giving Cakey the will to live, the one who gave her motivation to learn, the one who...

But her life wouldn't feel any different. Her mother was always absent, emotionally and physically. Cakey basically had to raise herself and learn everything on her own. Whenever she was in a need for help, she asked Slurpee. So why should she give a fuck?

Why did it still hurt?

Not a single tear fell from her eye, probably because of her state of denial.

Nana was walking back with the bowls in her hands, which she then placed on the table. "Bone apple-tits!" she said and did a chef's kiss.

Cakey didn't feel any appetite, but she couldn't decline self-made food. She shoved a spoonful into her mouth, recognizing the texture and cheesy flavor. "Is this one from Walmart?"

"Wha- no it's not! I made it myself with love!"

Tamari eyed the empty Mac and Cheese box peeking from the trash, so Nana pushed the carton further down the can to hide it. Then she made a gesture of zipping her mouth shut as she glared at Tamari, like some sort of warning.

Cakey felt the warmth of the food travel down her stomach and spread around her body. Nana sensed something being wrong with her, so she sat down opposite her. "Now tell me, what's wrong?"

She wanted to open her mouth to say that nothing was wrong, until she was interrupted by the ringing of the phone. Nana got up from her chair and walked upstairs, picking the phone up. "Hello?"

Silence from the other side. "Um, hi. Whoever you are, could you please pass the phone to Cakey?"

Nana couldn't recognize the voice, neither did she know a "Cakey", only a Flower. "Who are you?"

"Belladonna, I'm Flower's cousin," she responded flatly, trying to hide her annoyance. She was already in a bad mood, so this stupid question wasn't doing it any better. "You're at her house using her phone."

Nana's mouth formed to an O. "Ohh, so her nickname is Cakey? Wait a second." She covered the speaker with one hand and called her.

Cakey came running up the stairs and grabbed the phone. "Slurpee?" she spoke, immediately knowing who it was. She didn't question how she could contact her through the mirror dimension. "I'm so sorry that I annoyed you, I—"

"No, don't say that," she said. "I have to apologize. It's just..." She sighed. "Can you please come over? It's getting lonely here... and I think I might do something bad." The last sentence was said in a cracked voice.
