Walls Closing In

It was a long day at school for Asahina Mafuyu. She had just came home from an on and off rainstorm. As she walked up the creaking stairs, she felt as if something was wrong. Really wrong. Her heart's pulse started kicking up higher, her hands suddenly trembling. When she made it to the doorway of her bedroom, she found out exactly what it was. She stood in horror as she had come to a realization: her stuff was stolen.

Taken, like the stars when daybreak arrives.

Except the stars actually came back.

Her mother entered the room, probably awaiting this moment all along.

"Oh dear, there you are. I'm so sorry about your stuff. I was searching for something on your laptop, and I spilled coffee! I had cleaned it all, but it smeared all over! It's being cleaned separately, I'm doing so right now" her mom said, suppressing a smile.

"Are you sure? Was it that bad?" she asked contemplatively.

"Yes, your father had to throw it all in a big garbage bag for us to dissect through when we get the proper chance; spring cleaning is ever so hectic, I was looking for some cleaning hacks on your computer."

She knew it; her mom was lying. Her mom was efficient with cleaning, and she'd known her mother had simply taken it away. She would never do such a thing-but stooping low as to lying and taking Asahina's things? Never too low for her.

All that was left was her fish tank, table and bed.

She was left speechless, and she just stood there. She just stood there.

Her mother walked away, seemingly satisfied with her results. "Dinner is almost ready, Asahina" she sang out, in a voice similar to what poisoned honey would sound like, if it had a sound.

Her voice echoed in Asahina's mind, over and over, like a song you couldn't get out. She didn't even say sorry. Her pulse rushed even higher. But instead of an icy feeling like usual, this one, it burned, consumed her. Her head spun, and it felt like the walls were closing in on her.
