As Halbrand swept the remaining dirt on the floor, unable to wipe off the smile on his face remembering how close he was to Alora moments ago. However, he wanted to give her some time to mentally prepare for the morning. His smile grew, still feeling the soft touch of her hands and her lips over his. He wished he could be with her like that all night, but he had his duties and she had hers. The sound of footsteps stopped him from sweeping and his smiled dropped as he turned to see Galadriel standing by the fireplace. He noticed that she looked upset, so he set the broom to the side and began to fix the knives on the table.
"I was wrong to use you...For that, I am sorry." Galadriel spoke up as he focused on the knives. "Tomorrow the queen will call you to audience. Your voice at that meeting may well decide whether this mission stands or falls." She informed him and he furrowed his brows, but then he remembered that only Alora knew that he had changed his mind. "Help me." She pleaded. "I think I've helped you quite enough." He responded to which she sighed and took a step towards him, slamming one of the knives on the table which made him look at her.
"Then-"
"I am not doing this for you, elf."Galadriel looked at him confused and he sighed looking back down at the knives as his hands gripped the edge of the table. She noticed how tense he was, but something else was lingering within him, she didn't know what. He licked his lips and flexed his hands then stood up straight crossing his arms.
"My honor is with her, the princess. The only one who has been keeping me informed, the one who motivated me, the one who-" Halbrand cut himself mid-sentence and he let out a sharp breath then relaxed going back to the memory of him and Alora sharing their first kiss. He let his hands rest on the table and he looked at Galadriel as she looked back at him, still confused. "In the time I have known the princess, she has shown me nothing but patience and kindness. I am fighting for her." He added then grabbed the broom and walked to the fireplace, leaving Galadriel who stood there dumbfounded by his speech.
"You will only fight for her and not your people?"
"My people would cast me out if they knew of the things I did to keep myself alive. To survive on that raft...Not Alora, she is the only who accepted it."He felt his eyes well up with tears feeling overwhelmed by those memories before the raft and during. "Accepted what?" Galadriel questioned and he sighed closing his eyes. "The darkness, the one that dwells inside." He answered as he opened his eyes and looked into the fire then Galadriel sighed. "Where there is darkness, there is also light." She pointed out to him and he turned to look at her. "What do you know of darkness?" He interrogated which made her eyes flinch at his change of tone. "The dagger you carry, who does it belong to? Who did you lose?" He asked which made her eyes tear up at the thought of her brother, Finrod.
