Today was not Sunghoon's day. Everything that could've gone wrong, went wrong. He couldn't sleep the entire night, he hasn't had any opportunities to eat all day, he's had a raging headache all day, he fumbled during dance practice, and messed up during vocal training. Jay had been stressed all day, causing him to get irritated with the younger. All Sunghoon wanted to do, was go to the rink to release some stress.
As he grabbed his skates he headed for the door, "Hey! Where are you going?" Jungwon asked from the kitchen. "Just to the rink!" He yelled back looking over, "Ok! Just be back before 10!" Jungwon yelled back. Jungwon had adopted a mother-like persona at times being the leader. Sunghoon hurried out the door and to the rink, he was excited. Before he knew it he was on the ice, mostly just simple stuff, nothing past a double axel. He missed this, a lot. He glided on the ice gracefully, with elegance. He felt like the world wasn't a problem and the only thing that mattered to him at that moment was making sure he didn't hit the barrier.
As he was skating, he turned to do a delayed axel, simple but pretty. However, when he landed, his skate hit the ice by the pick, sending him flying forward landing on his left wrist. Sunghoon lay on the cold ice, not wanting to move, his wrist hurt so badly. The throbbing pain made Sunghoon stop moving completely, just taking in all of what had just happened. Eventually, he used his right hand and prompted himself up, he tried to move his wrist, "Ow!" Sunghoon nearly yelled. Due to the coldness of the ice, he got up and walked to the benches.
He took his skates off one-handed and exited the building. Soon he found himself outside of a pharmacy. He walked in with his mask and beanie, hoping he wouldn't be noticed. He walked in a quick fashion, finding what he needed and heading to self-checkout. He paid and almost ran out of the pharmacy. Making his way back to the HYBE building, he felt his wrist throb in pain. Due to this, he checked his phone for what might be wrong with it. Google thinks he has a grade 3 sprained wrist. He's sprained his ankles multiple times, but this was a first.
Soon he found his way to the HYBE building and found the dorm. Walking in, Jay was playing games, Ni-ki was player two, Jungwon and Heeseung were talking in the kitchen, and everyone else was in their rooms. Jungwon and Heeseung's heads turned over seeing the door open. "Hey! Welcome back!" Heeseung stated with a smile. "You know it's 9:55, right? You were almost late," Jungwon said looking at him. Heeseung nodded. "Yeah, I know, sorry Mom and Dad," He said giggling. "If we're your parents then we can ground you!" Jungwon said turning the stove off. "No going to the rink for a month!" Heeseung mocked. Sunghoon laughed and left for his room.
He was lucky Sunoo was in the shower, he quickly took the wrist brace out of the packaging and put it on his wrist. If it worked for ankles it would hopefully work on wrists too. He put on a hoodie and kept his left hand covered. "Hey, Sunghoon-Hyung! Can you come here?" Jungwon yelled from the other room. "Coming!" He yelled back getting up and walking to the kitchen.
"Hey! Me and Heeseung were making Ramyeon and we accidentally made too much. You want some?" Jungwon asked helping Heeseung plate the food. "Sure!" Sunghoon said heading to grab a bowl. Soon the 3 were eating and chatting. "Now that I think about it, us eating is making me feel even more like you guys are my parents," Sunghoon laughed looking at the two. Everyone laughed as the food was finished. Heeseung and Jungwon washed the dishes whilst Sunghoon put them up. Forgetting about his wrist, he tried to pick up a plastic cup, though he let it go immediately as his wrist disagreed painfully.
"Are you ok?" Jungwon asked worriedly, "Yeah it slipped," Sunghoon tried to laugh it off with his words. "If you say so," Jungwon looked at his wrist, obviously not buying it.
This went on for 3 days, he only used his right hand, despite being left-handed. He only wore long sleeves or no brace. Anytime he used his left hand for anything, he was in pain. Jungwon took notice of this and finally decided to say something. That night, whilst everyone was doing their own thing, Jungwon slipped to Sunghoon and Sunoo's shared room. "Hey!" Jungwon said, slightly startling Sunghoon. "Oh, hey," Sunghoon replied as Jungwon walked in.
Sunghoon pulled down his sleeve as Jungwon sat down beside him on the bed. "This is going to sound a little bit odd, but is your wrist ok?" Jungwon asked looking at him. "Yeah, why do you ask?" Sunghoon said nervously. "Well you haven't been using your left any and I know you're left-handed," Jungwon stated looking down at the wrist. "It's fine, it's just been hurting some the past couple of days," Sunghoon lied. "Do you mind if I look at it?" Jungwon asked looking at the brace peaking out of the sleeve. "Nah it's fine Jungwon," Sunghoon said, trying to convince him he was fine. "Hyung, if it's been hurting at least can we put some compression tape on it? It'll help," Jungwon persisted.
"It doesn't matter, please leave me alone," Sunghoon said starting to get agitated with Jungwon's continuous attempts to see his wrist. Jungwon stayed quiet, standing up and leaving, he obviously was slightly hurt. Sunghoon felt horrible, he didn't mean to be rude, he knew Jungwon only wanted to help. Later Heeseung came into the room. "Hey!" Heeseung said standing by the door. Sunghoon looked over, no expression on his face. Heeseung sighed and walked closer to Sunghoon. "I saw Jungwon come out of your room with a mix of emotions so I came here."
Sunghoon stared into Heeseung's eyes, sighing he looked past the door, just a wall. Eventually, the two were talking just about things that had happened in the past. From the time Heeseung sprained his ankle to the time Sunoo broke his arm after tripping down the stairs. "It took a lot not to laugh when Ni-ki was showing me all of those pictures of Sunoo asleep in his cast, poor boy was struggling!" Heeseung giggled as Sunghoon stared at the ground. Heeseung looked over to the boy, he looked deep in thought. "Sunghoon?" Heeseung asked looking at him with a smile.
"I know what you're doing, Hyung, and I'm ashamed to say it's working," Sunghoon said looking back at Heeseung. "Telling me stories, the good and the bad, of something you think has happened to me so that I'll tell you what's wrong." Heeseung looked at him with a smile, he had done his job. Sunghoon grabbed his sleeve and pulled it up, revealing the brace. "I was skating a couple of days ago and when I did a delayed axle my skate landed pick first so I fell on it. I googled it and it thinks I have a grade 3 sprain," Sunghoon admitted, embarrassed.
Heeseung put an arm around his shoulders, "Well we know now. So from now on you wear the brace during the day, all day, and don't overuse it. Alright?" Heeseung said smiling. Sunghoon nodded looking at the sprain. "I'll tell the members unless you want to," He said standing up.
After about 10 minutes Sunghoon and Heeseung told the members and Sunghoon apologized to Jungwon.
A few days later...
it was late at night, about 11 pm. Jungwon, Heeseung, and Sunghoon were cooking Ramyeon in the kitchen. Whilst Jake had passed out on the couch, he had the flu. "Isn't it funny how we were doing this the other night?" Sunghoon thought. After they had all eaten they were simply sitting at the table talking to one another. "You know, after the past couple of days, I feel like it's appropriate to start calling you two "Mom" and "Dad," Sunghoon laughed. "Alright, I'm definitely Dad," Jungwon said confidently. "In your dreams Hun," Heeseung said laughing. "Yeah I'm with Dad, Mom" Sunghoon began to crack up.
