The rain poured in Seoul as Jake stared at his ceiling. The loud pittering of rain could be heard from anywhere in the building. The water hit Jake's window hard as he turned his head to watch. The quiet rumbles of thunder could be heard as the Australian's facial expression turned to one of slight worry. He sat up in his bed, a pit in his stomach. "I hope the rain doesn't get too bad," he shivered at the thought, reminiscing on old memories. He quickly stood up and exited his room, trying to keep his mind off it.
Entering the living room, he was greeted with the sight of the members attempting a pillow fortress. "Hey, hyung! Wanna help?" Ni-ki said, happily looking at Jake as he walked in. The older smiled and began helping tidy the attempt into an actual fortress. "Do you think the storm is going to get too bad?" Heeseung asked whoever was to listen. Jay and he began talking as Jake listened and put the pillows into better placements. It didn't take long before the pillows were in an actual placement that supported the blankets and created a fort.
The night began to fall as Jake felt his anxiety grow, the thunder began to get louder as the rain continued to fall. "Why is there such a limited amount of dramas now," Sunoo whined as he looked through the streaming service. "Cause you've watched them all," Jake chimed in, earning a side eye from Sunoo. The rest of Enhypen continued talking until Sunoo eventually found a movie to watch. The drama began as Jake zoned out, not paying attention to the screen. His gaze turned to the weather, despite his dislike of thunder, the rain was always beautiful in his eyes. The night continued until about 9 PM when Jake felt himself beginning to get sleepy. Just as he felt his eyelids begin to shut, everything in the room went dark, raising sparks throughout the group. Jake's eyes opened wide as the Jungwon began speaking, "Damn, the power's out."
Jake felt his heartbeat begin to increase as the members scrambled to find phones and flashlights. The dark felt like it was slowly closing in on him as his member's voices began to sound muffled, replaced with only the low rumble of thunder. He closed his eyes as a bright flash of light showed, illuminating the room. "Jake, are you ok?" Sunghoon asked, looking at him with his phone shining upward in his hand. Jake listened carefully to the other voices of his friends, calming himself down. "Y-yeah, the power's out?" he asked, looking at Sunghoon. The rest of Enhypen let out words of agreement as Jake got up from the floor. The members began acquiring flashlights as Jake continued calming himself. "They're not here, you're in South Korea. It's just a power outage," he quietly mumbled to himself, looking around for any kind of light-emitting object. Sunghoon turned his head to the older, confused, "You ok?" Jake turned his head to him, quickly nodding, "Better than ever," he said with a chuckle.
The members eventually settled in the living room, playing card games. "One!" Ni-ki yelled as he placed down his second to last card, "Ni-ki, you have to say 'Uno,'" Jake said, chuckling. "They mean the same thing it's fine," the Japanese said, eyeing the older in hopes of not drawing any more cards. The endless rounds of Uno continued as the night went on, the quiet rumble of thunder still prevalent. Jake felt a wave of uneasiness as each round of thunder came through his ears. The flashlights slowly began to fade, one by one, running out of battery. Jake continued trying to monitor his breathing and heart rate, getting more uncomfortable as each light began disappearing. "Guys, we probably need to start putting these up, the lights are starting to go out," Heeseung said, picking up the scattered cards. The cards were soon put away as the last light went out, the moon being the only source of light.
The seven resorted to conversation in the living room, any topic being welcome. "Back when I was a kid my mom used to make these like celery things," Jungwon started, struggling to explain. Jake began zoning out, thinking about his own childhood. The conversation of his members began becoming muffled and replaced by the distant yelling of his mother. His vision began to blur as faint memories of the inside of his closet began flooding his mind. The voices began getting louder as they were accompanied by the sound of his father screaming. He felt his breathing quicken as he began to shake, feeling the musty carpet of his closet beneath his fingertips as the yelling became horribly clear. "It was your idea to have him, Jessica!" "And I regret that decision, Seonhwa! Jake was a mistake and you know that!" Jake felt his body tense as tears began to prick his eyes, "Will you shut up, Jessica?!" "Why?! You started this fight! If you hate him that bad then why don't you deal with him yourself!?" her voice was cut off by a loud cracking noise. Jake was brought back to reality by the loud strike of lightning outside the HYBE building. He lifted his head to see his members looking at him with faces of concern. Jake felt his breathing going a mile a minute, he slowly began scooting away from the members, his eyes wide. "Jake hyung? Are you ok?" Jungwon said, reaching his hand out to him. Jake felt hot tears pour from his eyes, "Don't t-touch me!" Jake screamed through a broken sob, backing away more. Jungwon stepped back, his face filled with shock. Jake quickly stood up, running as far away from the members as possible. He hurriedly closed the bathroom door and slumped down to the floor.
Jake began sobbing as the memories overcame his mind. The images of his father jerking on his small closet door to reach him, his furious face, his hand holding a leather belt, and the smell of alcohol and cigarettes became disgustingly vivid. His chest heaved as he felt his head spin. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry," Jake began mumbling as he felt his consciousness slowly slipping from his hold.
Heeseung began trying to open the door, "It's not locked but I'm scared to hit him, our bathroom isn't that big," he began, carefully opening the door. The door was soon fully open, revealing a nearly unconscious Jake, sobbing on the floor. He dropped to his knees and held Jake's shoulders. "Jake, we're here. It's ok, are you ok?" he said, panic drowning his voice. Jake slowly turned his head to meet Heeseung's eyes, still mumbling. "Jake, it's ok, we're here," he said as he placed one of Jake's hands on his chest. "You can feel my breathing, right?" he asked, taking deep breaths. Jake nodded through quiet sobs as Heeseung's voice became more clear. "Copy it, you can do it," Heeseung said simply, as he felt Jake's pulse. Jake began copying his breathing to the best of his ability, his thoughts beginning to fade. Jake finally was brought out of his panic attack, now back in the living room, surrounded by the rest of Enhypen.
After an extremely hard explanation, the members comforted him to their best ability, taking into account all Jake has been through. Enhypen had a lot happen in one night, and a lot of secrets on full display.
Hi, hope this was good. I actually had a lot of fun writing it.
