Sunghoon looked out of the window, watching the objects go by, feeling nerve-wracking. He thought back upon the events of the past few weeks. It started small, just a little bit of pain in his arm, at first he thought he just bruised it. However, as the next two weeks occurred, it got worse, with slight swelling and sensitivity, he and his manager were now in the car, heading towards the hospital for Sunghoon's appointment.
Sunghoon looked at his hands, his arm had hurt and was almost throbbing in pain as the car soon came to a halt outside of the big white building. The two nervously entered the building and soon were walking down the hall into the doctor's room.
It didn't take long until Sunghoon and the manager were simply waiting to find out what was wrong. The wait felt like forever, but the doctor came back relatively fast wearing a saddened expression. "Sunghoon, we are sorry to say, but, you have soft tissue sarcoma, or in other words, you have cancer in your arm," the doctor diagnosed. Sunghoon sat there, distraught, "There's no way..."Sunghoon thought, tears threatening to spill. "We can begin treatment soon, however, for now, we would like to look at the cancer spot and run a few tests to learn more about it," the doctor said as Sunghoon silently nodded before being taken into a different room.
The doctors poked, scanned, and messed with the spot on Sunghoon's left arm, the poor boy was silent and seemed shaken by the current events. Eventually, they let Sunghoon leave and were soon to begin his treatment. The car ride back was silent, neither said a single word. The two were soon back at the company building. Sunghoon had looked distanced and almost depressed. Who wouldn't be in his situation?
Sunghoon was quiet as he walked straight to his and Sunoo's shared room and shut the door behind him. Sunghoon finally let out his tears, sobbing quietly into his hands. "Oh my god..." Sunghoon thought as he cried. After that, he didn't leave his room and after, he ended up falling asleep there, just as he was. The next morning was taxing, and the continuous times he had to tell his members "It was just a checkup," and "I'm fine," felt monotonous.
Dance practice was tiring, just as they all were, but Sunghoon couldn't help but feel worse as it went on, many thoughts were clouding his brain as he practiced the choreography. "Sunghoon? Are you ok man?" Jay asked interrupting the younger from his thoughts. Sunghoon jumped and turned his head to Jay, "Oh! Yeah, just tired," Sunghoon lied as Jay shrugged. The rest of the week's practices went similarly, Sunghoon being off, and shrugging it off as "I'm just tired."
It wasn't long until Sunghoon began treatment every 3 weeks, as well as supplements to help keep his body strong during their comeback. "You're going to have to tell them, especially with the treatments now," the manager spoke up, interrupting the silence of the car. Sunghoon jerked his head up and looked over, "I know, I don't want to keep it from them, but I can't imagine them if they knew about it..." Sunghoon stated, guilt consuming his mind. "These treatments really take it out of people, and slowly they'll take a worse toll than you can cover as they go on, I have faith that you'll come out of this alive and well, but it would be best to tell your members while you still can instead fo them finding out," the manager said, placing a hand on Sunghoon's shoulder, eyes never leaving the road.
The rest of the car ride to the hospital was silent, Sunghoon reflected on the older's words, "I need to tell them..." After the treatment, Sunghoon knew he wasn't going to be doing well the next few days, he already felt exhausted. The rest of the night was happy inside the dorm, "I don't want to bring the mood down, it's too nice to tell them yet..." Sunghoon said, trying to validate his excuse.
After about two days, Sunghoon began to feel what his manager was talking about, he felt constant nausea and fatigue with a zapped appetite. "Hyung? Are you doing alright? I think you need to sit down," the voice of a concerned Sunoo rang through the figure skater's ears as he turned his head. "I'm fine Sunoo, just not doing great today," Sunghoon attempted to reassure the younger. However, Sunghoon's Hyungs made him sit down and out of the dancing for a few minutes. "I've got to tell them, I can't be like this every three weeks," Sunghoon thought, fidgeting with his thumbs.
"Sir, I think we're going to need to keep you in the hospital for some time, the cancer needs to be monitored, if not your survival rate will be brought down significantly. I'm sorry," the doctor said as Sunghoon froze. A few stray tears ran down Sunghoon's cheeks as he quickly tried to wipe them away, "Y-Yes ma'am, I understand," Sunghoon mumbled before looking down at his shaking hands. "Hey, it's going to be alright Sunghoon," the manager said walking up from behind him, placing his hand on his shoulder. He tried his best to comfort the now sobbing Sunghoon, the amount of emotional and physical pain Sunghoon felt was nearly intolerable.
It wasn't long before Sunghoon had to make a dreaded phone call to the group. *RING..... RING..... RING.....* Sunghoon's phone rang as he looked at his appearance in the reflection of the window, he looked paler than he usually was, skinnier, and visibly tired. "God, I look sick too huh?" Sunghoon sadly mumbled to himself. "Hey Hyung! Where are you? Shouldn't you be home soon?" The happy voice of Ni-ki answered the phone, and Sunghoon frowned even more hearing the cheery voice of the youngest. "Sadly, no, can you put me on speaker?" he asked, waiting to hear the button be pushed, "Hey, um, the manager is on his way to pick you guys up, there's been a few things happening that I need to tell you, guys, about when you get here," Sunghoon said in an attempt to keep it vague. A lot of concern could be heard over the phone, many asking what was wrong or where he was. "I'll tell you when you get here," was the last thing Sunghoon said before hanging up the phone.
About 20 minutes later, Sunghoon was met with his manager and the rest of Enhypen. The member's faces turned to horror seeing Sunghoon in a hospital gown with a heart monitor and his current condition. After a flood of questions, Sunghoon was finally able to answer the questions. "I'm so sorry I hadn't told you guys earlier, but, I have cancer..." Sunghoon said, warm tears welling in his eyes. The rest of the members began to tear up and hug the figure idol. The group stayed like that for a while, not being able to imagine losing him.
The next few weeks, the members were given more time to see Sunghoon, they weren't able to abandon being idols, but, they did have much more time to visit Sunghoon. "Good news Sunghoon!" Sunghoon shot his head to the door as he saw the nurse walk through the door. "From what we've seen, this may be your final round of Kemo! We'll run a few tests in the next couple of days, and we believe that you'll be cancer-free!" the nurse said walking over to help Sunghoon up and to the treatment facility. Sunghoon never felt as much joy as he did then. Sunghoon simply smiled at the nurse, pure joy in his eyes.
As the nurses predicted, he was cancer-free. The members, his family, and of course, himself, were overjoyed. The group went on to finish the comeback together, "And I was lucky enough for my hair only to start thinning," Sunghoon joked as he was finally discharged from the hospital.
YAYYY!!!! OMG, I GOT SO SAD WRITING THIS AND IDEK WHY- I finally finished it! I've been meaning to finish it so here I am at midnight lol, I hope you like it! And if you thought Sunghoon was going to die, then lol tee hee, I don't like writing someone dying, if they're already dead, then I can write it, in this case, I would probably have a mental breakdown actually writing about Sunghoon dying from cancer- I love him as an Idol and the idea of that happening like that would actually make me cry so hard tbh- Hope you have an amazing day/night!
