Jess' POV
We were on our way now to Dad's house in Manchester. I was nervous as hell about this. I knew I must do this but still, I had a little doubt in my mind. Maybe this was just the effect of my nervousness, right? Maybe Dad would understand me this time. I hoped he would listen and just agree about this whole thing. Aargh, but what if he di-
"You are nervous." Mark suddenly said as he glanced at me.
"Uh, ye...yeah. Very." I put a nervous smile. "Are you?"
"Well, meeting your father-in-law-soon-to-be, who doesn't feel nervous about that?" He let out a little nervous chuckle. "But, relax, okay?" He took my hand and gave it some caresses. "We have worked hard for this and I know we're gonna be worth it. We will be fine."
"We will." I gripped his hand and nodded. "Yeah, we will." I mumbled.
-----
A half hour later, we arrived at Dad's house-- or mansion. It looked lot way more like mansion now than the last time I was here.
"So, yeah, this is it." He breathed out.
I took a deep breath. "Yeah this is it."
"God bless us." He muttered then rang the bell.
Here we go.
A minute had passed by but there was still no respond. He rang it again and a minute later, still no respond. He rang it for the third time and finally someone opened the door who turned out as a woman I'd never met before. Gosh, she couldn't be Dad's new wife or what, could she!?
"Good afternoon, ma'am." I greeted politely though I could feel no patience in me right now.
"Good afternoon." She kept looking at both of us. I guessed she had no idea who I was just as I did about her.
"Eumm, is this the right house of Mr. Easton Carter?" I asked even though I knew this was. But what if he had moved away right? You never knew.
"Yes, this is. Are you looking for someone?"
"We are looking for Mr. Carter himself."
"May I know what your business with him is?"
"I'm Jessica Carter, his daughter. I want to talk to him about something important and private." I replied. Jeez, why was I so really-to-the-point type of person?
"Oh my God." She seemed very taken back when I said I was Dad's daughter. "Are you Sarah's daughter?"
My heart skipped a beat at the mention of her name. "I am."
She opened the door wider. "Please follow me."
I nodded. "Thank you." Mark and I both got in. As we we were walking, I took his hand in mine.
"It's okay, Jess. I'm here." He whispered, knowing I was nervous as fuck. I could just faint right here and right now.
We were led to a room upstairs. It used to be an empty room when I had been here.
"Here he is."
"Thank you, ma'am."
"Ah don't call me ma'am. Just call me Beth. I'm your father's sister." She smiled-- true smile.
"You're my aunt?" I asked, feeling surprised. I didn't know Dad had any sister or brother. Well, how was I supposed to know when all I had known was him coming home drunk?
"Correct. Well maybe you didn't know it before."
"I'm sorry I didn't. He never told me anything about his family." I shrugged.
