Chapter 66

Third Person POV

Katherine was fourteen weeks pregnant and her mafia family was over the moon when they heard the news. The security was tightened as per Lionel's instructions. Lionel found petty excuses just to spend time with his wife and Katherine had no complaints about it. Katherine smirked when she heard Lionel's voice outside her office door and sure enough, he opened the door and peeked inside with a sheepish expression on his face. "Let me guess, none of the printers in your office is working today?" Katherine asked with an amused smile on her face. She was used to his senseless excuses by now. Lionel raised his eyebrows and placed a hand on his chest feigning shock.

"Wow! We are soulmates, aren't we? How did you know what was happening baby?" He asked before kissing her on the lips. Katherine chuckled, shaking her head. "Because you've already used every single reason in the book. I don't think you're getting any work done at this rate." She teased. "Are you saying that I need an excuse to see my wife?" Lionel asked as if he was offended by her remark. He pulled out a pen from the pen holder and mindlessly played with it. "Do you want to go get ice-cream with me?" He asked and immediately regretted as soon as the words left his mouth. It was a stupid question but his brain just could not come up with anything better. Katherine tried hard not to chuckle but she was amused by his behaviour. She just decided to play along with him.

"Ice-cream sounds nice." She remarked. "Too bad that the owner of Xavier Corp cannot order her assistant to get it from the cafeteria." She teased him and his eyes brightened up when he realised that she was playing along. "Well, theres a strict rule that says cafeterias inside the company shouldn't sell them. Did you know that?" He asked innocently. This time she couldn't contain her smile. "Stupid." She chuckled shaking her head. "Oh, come on babe, don't be like that." Lionel complained with a smile on his face. "Get out of my office, I have to work." She said, trying to sound strict but failing miserably. "How can you work when an handsome man is right in front of you?" He questioned. "Maybe I should try removing my shirt?" He muttered to himself but she clearly heard him.

She opened her mouth to scold him but stopped when Cherry walked in with a package. "Ms. Xavier, you have a package." She said handing it to Katherine who looked confused. She checked the sender's name and realised that it was anonymous. She thanked Cherry who politely excused herself. "What is that?" Lionel asked curious to see what it was and Katherine just shrugged opening the package. Katherines' eyes widened when she looked what was inside. She was too shocked to even scream and Lionel panicked when he saw the expression on her face. He quickly peeked inside the box and ripped it away from Katherines hands when he saw a foetus inside. Katherine was too stunned to move but tears flowed from her eyes. Lionel quickly called Andrew and shouted orders at him. The next few moments went by a blur and she did not realise what was happening around her.

Lionel ran a hand through his hair in frustration. He raked his brain to find who would do such a thing but no names popped up in his head. His heart shattered when his eyes landed on his wife. Her hands trembled as tears flowed from her eyes. He knew that she was in shock and he quickly rushed to her side. "Babe look at me." He said physically moving her face towards him. "I'll find the bastard who did this and rip him to shreds." He assured her, trying to contain his anger but in vain. Katherine finally came out of her daze and sobbed as he wrapped his arms around her. "Take me home." She said softly and Lionel quickly picked her up in bridal style, afraid to let her walk. He drove like a madman wanting to reach home as fast as possible.

Katherine did not speak a word for the rest of the day and quietly slept in her bed. She furiously tried to wipe her tears away and screamed in frustration when they didn't stop coming. She couldn't get the image of the dead foetus out of her head and held her stomach in fear for her baby. Lionel rushed in when he heard her scream and found her sobbing. He promised to himself that he would personally kill the bastard that did this to his wife. He held her tightly in his arms and ran his fingers through her hair, trying to calm her down. "You are safe baby, don't cry. I'm here." He assured her. She sniffled for few minutes in her arms and wiped her tears away in determination. She pulled away from him and typed something in her phone quickly. What are you doing? Lionel asked. "Ryder is here, go to the meeting room, I'll be there in few minutes. Let me wash my face first." She said and left before he could reply.

Lionel didn't understand what the fuss was all about. He was confused when he saw Ryder and his team, furiously discussing with a grim look on their face. "Did you guys find out who that bastard is?" Lionel asked Ryder. Ryder nodded and sighed. He knew that Lionel had no idea what they were up against. "Then what are we waiting for? Lets kill that son of a bitch." He cursed. Ryder quickly shook his head. "It's not that easy. We may lose our life if we make a single mistake. Hes a psychopath." Ryder said looking into the computer screen in front of him. "Do you know him? Who is he and why is he doing this?" Lionel asked them, frustrated. It was Jason that replied this time. "His name is Devon. He used to stalk Kat. We went through hell and back to kill him but looks like that sucker isn't dead yet."

Lionel pondered about the new information. He understood that there was more to the story if Katherine was that shaken up. "Do we have his picture?" Lionel asked. "Theres no need for his picture." A very unpleasant voice echoed throughout the room. Lionel cursed under his breath. He knew who he would come face to face with if he turned around and yet he still did. He did not want to delay the inevitable. "What is this fucker doing here?" He said bitterly to no one in particular. "I asked him to come here Lionel." Katherine said as she entered the meeting room. She had washed her face but still her eyes were red. Before Lionel could protest Kevin explained "Devon is my twin brother. We are identical." Lionel paused at the information. He had no idea as to what to say to that. As if one headache wasn't enough, there was another identical looking one. "That explains it." Lionel snapped "Looks like idiocy runs in the family." Katherine had enough of their banter. "That's enough Lionel." She said, pissed at him. "Don't speak if you don't know what Kevin has done in the past in order to save me." Kevin stopped her before she could say more. "Lionel, I understand how you feel but we should keep our differences aside if we have to save her. Devon cannot be underestimated." Kevin pleaded.

Lionel could understand the seriousness in his voice. The Kevin in front of him was not the man who tried to steal his wife. Instead, he looked broken, scared and vulnerable and that's why Lionel, for the first time in his life, agreed with Kevin. Lionel nodded at his plea and Kevin breathed out a sigh of relief. He quickly rushed towards Ryder and asked him to show the pictures of the package. Kevin's face turned pale when he saw the picture of the knife next to the foetus. It was the same knife that Kevin shoved into his brothers' chest before leaving him inside the burning building. Tears threatened to flow from his eyes as he tried not to show it. How many times did he have to kill his beloved brother whom he swore to protect? Kevin and Devon grew up in an orphanage. They were boys with a lot of dreams when Kevin joined Xavier Corp as an intern. If only Devon hadnt become obsessed with Katherine and started killing every man she came in contact with, Kevin would have his brother by his side. He had spilled the blood of too many people before trying to kill Katherine and that's when Kevin had decided to end Devon's life. But as he stared at the picture, he was sure that Devon wasn't dead.

"I'll make sure to kill him this time Ms. Xavier. Even if I have to die doing it, I'll make sure a monster like him will not survive this time." Kevin said in determination. Katherine shook her head. "Let's make sure nobody dies this time. I'll be the one to put a bullet in his head this time. Meanwhile, Andrew, increase the security at all our properties. Kevin you must never step out of this house, he may try to switch places with you like last time. Lionel, please work from home as much as possible and ask Ravi to do the same. Devon will target Ravi to lure you out. Lana is already in Spain, convince your mother to join her. They will be safe there." Katherine said to which the men nodded. "April and Stella, I want you to track down Devon. I want every minute detail about his activities. Ansel, distribute the security bracelets to everyone, monitor their locations at all time." Everybody immediately got into work at their Capo's orders and Lionel was immensely proud of his wife. He knew how shaken up she was but she still managed to compose herself and have a level head.

Lionel hugged her after everybody had retired for the night. "Are you alright?" He asked breathing into her neck. She sighed hugging him tightly. "No." She admitted. "I'm here for you baby. I'll keep you both safe." Lionel said rubbing her belly. "I know." She said kissing him. She was really scared for her family but she knew that she would protect whats hers, at all costs.
