Katherine's POV

I looked at my reflection in the mirror but what I saw, didn't make me happy. Because what I saw was a weak pathetic excuse of a woman staring back at me with her blank dead eyes.

It wasn't Katherine Xavier, the CEO. It was just a woman who looked like her. Never did I ever think that I, The Katherine Xavier would depend on somebody so much that I would feel incomplete without them. But Lionel did that to me. He was the music in my song. He was the blood running in my body. He was the oxygen in my breath. But now, he is not there to kiss me good morning. He's not there to hug me when I have a bad day. He's not there to make me feel special. And, it's all my fault. Its all because of my cowardice. Yes, that's what I am now.

A Coward. A coward who lost the most precious thing to her. A coward who lost her love. A coward who lost... Lionel.

I balled my hands into fists, gritting my teeth in shame and anger. A loud sound of mirror shattering echoed throughout the room followed by hurried footsteps.

"You know, punching mirrors don't change the past right. " Carter said grabbing the first aid kit.

"Shut up. " I muttered under my breath while he started cleaning my knuckles.

"I know it hurts Kate, but you know why you did it and you should be strong now. You have a charity event to attend today. Don't forget that. " he said tending to the wounds on my fingers.

"I know Carter. But something feels off today. I feel that something's about to happen today. Something bad probably."

He smiled and shook his head at my silliness. "If you're ready, we shall leave now. " He replied in a fully professional tone.
I nodded my head in approval and took my clutch from the dresser.

Time to put on a business face.

Lionel's POV

I gelled my hair back and made sure I looked perfect. My heart raced in my chest. But I haven't the slightest idea why. I felt the same nervousness in the pit of my stomach I felt when I first met Katherine.

"Ready sir?" Ravi asked standing behind me. "Hell no. I just want the ground to swallow me right now." I said swallowing my nervousness.

"Perfect! I'll enjoy seeing you make yourself a fool in front of her. We'll leave then." He beamed and walked out of my room like the bloody pathetic jerk he is.

I sighed and shook my head in annoyance. Fixing my tie for the final time, I followed him.

The blinding light of cameras flashed on my face while I walked the red carpet. Me and Ravi had our professional face on while the media representatives threw questions at me. But there was one question from one of them that made my breath hitch.

"Mr. Lawson how do you feel about meeting Ms. Xavier after your break up?" asked some mutt.

Like bending your mother over and spanking her for spreading her legs to create a mongrel like you. I thought.

I grit my teeth and opened my mouth to give him a piece of my mind. But, Ravi beat me to hit "Mr. Lawson will not be taking anymore questions now."
Good save. That's why I need him.

Ravi ushered me inside the event hall, away from the eyes of the media. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. The hall was decorated lavishly and it looked like it was straight out of a disney movie where that blonde princess danced wearing glass slippers.

Men and women in stood drinking expensive drinks, wearing expensive clothes that could probably end world hunger.  "Pigs! " I scoffed at the thought.

Now I'll just have to act like I have a stick up my butt so that I could blend in. Because thats how they looked. Like they had a mile long stick high up their rear.

"If you could stop measuring the length of the stick that's high up their butts, let's begin searching for the target." Ravi said in my ear.

Of course he said what was happening in my mind again. I scoffed at him and walked forward.

"Don't speak like we're here to kidnap her. Idiot! . 'Target'? seriously?" I hissed at him. He looked confused by my words. And, is it weird that I already knew what question would he ask now?

"So, we aren't kidnapping her? "

"So, we aren't kidnapping her? " he said and I thought at the same time.
I looked around to see who was watching us and I could see some eyes watching us both like a hawk.

I plastered a million dollar smile on my face and looked back at Ravi. "Listen here dumbhead. We are not kidnapping anyone. We're gonna walk around, mingle, fake smile while looking for Katherine and when we find her, we'll get her alone and 'I,' remember carefully  I will get answers from her and leave. Do you understand? " I asked him while maintaining the smile on my face.

"Of course yes boss. " he beamed. I knew he'd mess up the plan just to spite me despite knowing the plan. I opened my mouth to warn him how I'd nail his tongue to the road if he messes up but closed my mouth as soon as I realized that it was very quiet around me.

I turned my head around to look at what had caused the silence and sure enough, I got my answer. There she was, seething at a waiter who looked like deer caught in head lights, because he knew that today was the last day of his life.

For the first time today, me and Ravi had the same words slip out our tongue.

"Run!"
