Chapter 39

Lionel's POV

We quietly slipped away from the monster in pink glittering slutty gown. Because we knew what followed next.
High Noise Pollution in 3...2...1..

"NOOOOOOO! HOW DARE YOU?!!! " She screamed like a constipated pig that got its tail stuck in barb wire.

People around us winced at the sound of her screech. So, the screaming brat was none other than Mandy Cradwell. Oswald Cradwell, the founder of Pristine group's only daughter.
Also, My ex-fling.

Three years ago, I was very drunk and bored one day. That was the day I  would regret for the rest of eternity. Probably my rotting body in my grave will regret sleeping with her. I just wanted a one night stand. Now she's set on marrying me. What's worst? The name she calls me.

"You dumb pig! Just wait till my Lioney hears about this. He will fire your ass. GET LOST!" she screamed at him.
And yes, that's what she calls me.

"Bro, we should finish our work and leave before she sees you and starts whining about how that guy spilled wine on her dress. "Ravi said next to me and he was damn right.

That's when we bagan searching for her. But soon realized that she wasn't here yet. What if she doesn't come?
The same question repeated in my head thousand times. With that started a mild throbbing pain in my head again. Stress headache. It was common these days.

"I think we've reached a dead end again Ravi. I don't think she'll come today. Everything was a waste." I said, defeated and shrinked into a nearby chair.

Ravi put his hand on my shoulder with a sad smile on his face. "Don't lose hope bro. The event hasn't ended yet." he tried to cheer me up but it wasn't enough.

We turned around when the MCs voice echoed throughout the hall. "Ladies and gentlemen, the lady of the night has arrived. Xavier Corp like always has donated huge funds this year too. Let's give a round of applause for the ever gorgeous Ms. Katherine Xavier, Ceo of Xavier corp. " My breath hitched as soon as I heard her name.

For the first time in five years, I was seeing her this close. And like always she looked breathtaking. The smooth material if her red colored gown clung to her body like a second skin.
The V neckline of the dress dipped a bit too low for my liking and showed the skin that only I was allowed see. But it wasn't slutty. She looked beyond beautiful.

"You're gonna get a boner if you keep staring at her." said the dumbwit next to me. That's when I came out of my trance.
"Shut up. I was just checking that it really was her. She looks okay to me. I've seen better. " I lied. Ravi raised his eyebrows in surprise at my words. He knew I was lying.
"Oh, then wipe that drool" he said pointing towards my mouth. I quickly brought my fingers towards my lips only to realize that the jerk had tricked me.
I glared at him and he had the audacity to laugh at me.
"Jerk" I muttered under my breath.

I turned around to look for Kate but she was no where to be found. I left Ravi and started searching for her again. That's when I realised where she would be. She always hated these kind of events. She would usually escape to the balcony. And that's where I went.

My guess was right. She stood facing the city, enjoying the cool air. She even looked gorgeous from behind. Seeing her this close almost made me emotional. I almost cried like how Lionel would have cried five years ago. But I wasn't that weak pathetic Lionel anymore.

I'm Lionel Lawson, founder and CEO of Lawson Inc. I'm the Lionel that will not give a damn about anyone anymore. I'm the Lionel that girls drop their panties for. I'm the Lionel that will probably still follow Kate around like a lost puppy... What?! Hell no!
The point is, I'm stronger now. I don't give a trash about Kate anymore.
As I was still giving myself all the pep talk I needed, my ears heard her melodious voice. The voice that could make a man's knees weak.

"Oh well, just the person who wanted to get me alone. What a not so pleasant surprise Mr. Lawson." She spoke, venom dripping from her voice.

Scratch everything I said earlier. She's still a bitch.

"An unpleasant surprise indeed Ms. Xavier. I thought you were dead and rotting six feet underground when your brother took over as CEO. But apparently bitches have a longer life. So, you're the CEO again. Why is that?  Nobody's giving you attention unless you're in some position uh? " I taunted her. I expected to see anger in her eyes. I expected a hard slap on my face, but not of that came. Instead she smiled. A genuine smile.

"Oh, Mr. Lawson, you're still bad at come backs. You're still a weak pathetic loser that I dumped five years ago. Moreover, why did you go to Capo di Capi for? To beg him . So that he'd talk me into taking you back? How pathetic. Now that I think of it, I did the right thing. Dumping you was the best decision I made. " she seethed. But her eyes lied. She unknowingly winced when she called me a loser. But, it's a mystery how she knew that I tried to meet Capo di capi.

I took a step closer to her and she took a step back. Her back hit the railing and all the confidence left her face. Nervousness was clearly visible in her face. She knew that she was cornered.
"Hey, what are you doing? Step back. " she threatened me
I just smirked and put my arms around her on the railing, successfully blocking her.
"Or what? What will you do Katherine? " I challenged her.

"I...I.... I'll start screaming." she threatened again. Cute...

"Oh you will be screaming my name by the end of night nonetheless." I whispered, bringing my lips close to her own.

I could see her cheeks turning red in the moonlight.

"Don't you dare Lionel. Get away from me. Don't you dare come any closer. I meant every word I said that day. I don't need you. I don't love you. And I  definitely don't want you anywhere near me. You were just a f... " and crashed my lips on her. I wanted truth from her. And now I know it. Everything she said that day was a lie. Everything was a damn big lie.

Surprising thing was she kissed me back. She ran her fingers through my hair and kissed me back like there's no tomorrow. Her kiss showed me how hungry she was for me.
Hell I knew she was starving for me.

She suddenly pushed me back when she realized what she did. She looked shocked that she gave in. I smiled genuinely at her.
"So, you're telling me that this was fake? What are you hiding Kate. Spill it already. I know you want me. " I almost begged her to say the truth.

And it looked like it worked. She looked at me with guilt in her eyes. Determination took over her face.
This was the moment I've been waiting for. She'll finally spill the truth.
"Lio, I... I'm s.. "
But all I heard was a screech while Kate looked behind me.

"LIONEY BABY"
Oh hell no!
