Chapter 45

Third person POV

Ryder marched towards Katherine's room after his meet up with Kevin. It was time to give Katherine her medicines. He checked the time on his watch and thought that Katherine should be awake already. He reached her room and opened the door slowly. Just like he thought, Katherine was sitting on her bed with her phone in her hand. She glared at the device, as if she wanted to burn holes through it.

He realised that she was about to blow up any moment. Not wanting have her go through another panic attack, he spoke, breaking Katherine out of her reverie. "Well, look who woke up. "

Katherine scoffed at Ryder's antics. "What happened? " she asked him, Wanting to know the reason she passed out, only to be woken up by an unwanted phone call.

Ryder calmly handed the medicines that Katherine was supposed to take. It was not going to cure the illness that was slowly pushing her towards her death. But those pills delivered what was promised by its manufacturer. It postponed her death.

Katherine was not afraid of death. But she was not ready to die yet. There was one more thing left for her to do. It was her responsibility to make sure the man she loved was safe. She wanted to live until she was sure that she had eliminated all the people that threatened Lionel's life. Just few more months.

She swallowed the pills and ran her finger's through her hair.

"Nicolai called just now. He knows that Lionel is with me. We have to move him somewhere safe. " Katherine ranted while Ryder calmly listened to her. Katherine's rant gave him a great opening to sneakily push her to take the next step.

According to Ryder, for a Mafia boss and a CEO, Katherine Xavier was quite stupid in terms of love. He knew what made her happy. Or in this case who made her happy.

It's true that Katherine didn't have much time left to live but Ryder wanted his boss to spend the remaining few months of her life happily with the guy she loved.

"So, how long do you intend to keep Lionel with you?" Ryder asked her and Katherine didn't waste a second before replying "Until he's bloody safe and Nicolai is rotting six feet underground."

Many people may find British slang cute and some might find it weird but Katherine definitely made her accent sound hot. Her mother was British while her Father was an American.

Ryder scoffed at her response. "You know that it could take months for that to happen right? How will you explain to the world that Lionel is staying with his ex-girlfriend? Keep in mind that keeping him safe under the same roof as you will only be easy if you are married to him. Or else the paparazzi will start to suspect that something is wrong. I suggest that you should think of a better plan boss." Ryder said trying to hold in the smirk threatning to show off on his lips.

He knew how his capo's mind worked. He mentally did a happy dance when Katherine's eyes widened and she said. "If a marriage is what it takes for Lionel to be safe, I'll marry him. So that I can constantly keep an eye on him."
