Seizures

I'm scared of what's gonna happen.

I went out to the bullpen and threw the book on Jays desk.
Jaylen: I'm going to the firehouse
Jay: I'll drop you
Jaylen: I'm fine walking

I walked over to the firehouse and kelly was sitting at the squad table. He stood.
Kelly: hey kiddo
I just went over and hugged him.
Kelly: what's going on?
Jaylen: they replaced them
Kelly: huh?
Jaylen: they've only been dead a few days and Hank already replace them
Kelly: what happened?
Jaylen: we went to the district and these new detectives were sitting at dad and mamas desk.
Kelly: I'm sorry kid
Jaylen: it's like they meant nothing to the them. They gave their life to the CPD and it's like no one cares. They were killed because CPD couldn't do their job properly.
Kelly: you hungry?
Jaylen: No
Kelly: you wanna go to the cages?
Jaylen: sure
Kelly: let me just get my stuff and I'll meet you back here.
After abou 10 minutes kelly came back.
Jaylen: i need to get my meds from the district
Kelly: okay
We drove to the district and Trudy buzzed me up. I looked around and realised Jay weren't there.
Jaylen: Al where's Jay?
Al: meeting a CI why?
Jaylen: I need my meds but they're in his desk drawer which is locked
Al: oh. He'll be like another half hour if you wanna wait
Jaylen: nah it's fine
I went to dads desk and opened the drawer
??: oi get out of my desk
Jaylen: while all this stuff is still in here, it's my dads desk
Al: Adam leave it
Jaylen: yeah Adam
I was searching through the desk I found my meds. I looked at the date and the ADHD ones were out of date
Jaylen: can I still take them if they're out of date
Al: I wouldn't advise to.
I went to mamas desk and found an in date bottle
Al: are they good?
Jaylen: yeah. See ya al
Al: see ya kid
I took the bottles and left. Kelly was still waiting in the car
Kelly: got them?
Jaylen: mhm
I took them and gave Kelly the bottles. We made our way to the cages. I took a bat and helmet and just started swinging. I hit nearly every ball that flew at me.
Kelly: you're doing good kid.

Kelly pov
Jaylen stopped and I could hear his lips smacking. I stopped the machine and took the bat from his hand. He was blinking repeatedly and there were small movements in his hands. It lasted at least 20 seconds. He came around but shortly went into another one. It lasted the same amount and took him a while to come round.
Jaylen: w-where's my bat?
I gave it back to him and put another quarter in. The machine started again and he went back to hitting them.
Kelly: hey bud come grab a drink
Jaylen: I'm fine
Kelly: Jay. Water. Now
Jaylen: fine
He drank some water and went back in.
Kelly: you've got 20 minutes left
He hit ball after ball until the machine stopped
Jaylen: can we go get food? I'm starving
Kelly: sure
Jaylen: can we go to the diner?
Kelly: Miss Greene?
Jaylen: yeah
Kelly: sure
We drove to the diner. Jaylen ran to the door and I was trailing behind.

Jaylen pov
Jaylen: Miss Greene
Miss Greene: Jaylen. It's nice to see you
I sat at the counter and Kelly walked in
Miss Greene: Kelly you've grown so much since I last saw you
Jaylen: you know each other?
Miss Greene: Kelly used to come here when he was a boy. His dad used to bring him down
Jaylen: cool
Miss Greene: how you doing Jaylen?
Jaylen: I'm okay. Kelly took me to the cages.
Miss Greene: your playing baseball again?
Jaylen: yeah. I know dad would have wanted me to keep playing and mama always said I needed an outlet for my energy.
Miss Greene: the usual
Jaylen: yes please. Can I have a burger too?
Miss Greene: sure Kelly?
Kelly: burger, hot dog and fries please with a vanilla milkshake
I started laughing
Kelly: what's so funny?
Jaylen: vanilla? Your so boring
Kelly: haha
Kelly nudged me.
Jaylen: dumbass
Miss Greene: watch your language mister
Jaylen: sorry
Miss Greene is one of the few people I respect. I don't want to disappoint her. I always try to be respectful.
Miss Greene left to make our orders.
Kelly: this place hasn't changed much
Jaylen: No it's stayed pretty much the same.
Kelly: so you used to come here?
Jaylen: yeah me mama and dad used to come here all the time. It was the one place we could just get away. Mama and dad loved to get away from work and just spend time here. Sometimes Jay would even come with us. You and Jay are like the big brothers I never had.
Kelly: yeah. Your like the annoying little brother I never had

Kelly pov
Jaylen: you see whe-
I noticed that his eyes were glazed over and he was blinking repeatedly. His lips were smacking and there were small movements in his hands. It lasted at least 20 seconds. He came around.
Jaylen: when they send me away, can we still talk?
Kelly: sure kiddo
I got his meds and gave them to him and he took them
Miss Greene: grubs up
Jaylen: thank you miss Greene
Miss Greene: No problem honey
We ate while having a conversation with kelly and miss Greene.
Jaylen: Kelly can I go back to school tomorrow?
Kelly: why are you not at school anyways? You get suspended?
Jaylen: No they thought it was in my best interest that I took a few days off to process.
Kelly: why?
Jaylen: a kid in my class was pissing me off about me not having parents. I snapped and we got into a fight.
Miss Greene: have you talked to anyone since last time you were here?
Jaylen: not really. I tried to but I couldn't. I talked to kelly a little and Jay told me to write whatever I want if I didn't want to talk.
Kelly: about school if you feel ready I don't see why not. Just make sure you speak to Jay
Jaylen: has Jay said anything about the social worker?
Kelly: not yet
Jaylen: okay
Kelly: I'll message Jay
Jaylen: it smells weird in here
Miss Greene: what do you mean sweetie?
Jaylen: why does it smell like gasoline in here?
Me and Miss Greene looked at each other worried. A few minutes later he was just staring off into space fiddling with the hem of his sleeve. He was also making noises
Kelly: I've got a bad feeling about this
Miss Greene: why?
Kelly: this is his fourth one today. They're not supposed to be this bad. He's taking his meds. I think this is gonna lead up to a big one.
He came round and was talking again.
Jaylen: Kelly feel floaty
Kelly: what do you mean bud?
Jaylen: weird
His eyes kept rolling back but he was tryna fight the seizure
Miss Greene: hey honey don't fight it okay.
Jaylen: 'm not like
Miss Greene: I know honey but we're here. Okay. Everything will be okay
Kelly: you'll feel better. Let's get you laid down
I helped him lay on the floor on his side. I bundled my hoodie and placed it under his head.
Jaylen: h'pen soon
Kelly: I know bud it's okay. We're right here
A few seconds later his body went stiff before jerking. His eyes rolled backwards. Each convulsion drew painful grunts from him. I started a timer
Miss Greene: it seems like they've gotten worse
Kelly: yeah it has. They said he'd grow out of it but it's getting worse. We're still yet to find a medication that works. They work for a while but then it's like he becomes immune to it and they don't work the same.
The convulsions began to slow down to just twitches before stopping completely.
Kelly: now we wait
After 20 minutes he began to come around.
Miss Greene: hey honey
He looked around confused
Kelly: you had a seizure bud. your at the diner with me and Miss Greene.
I put my hand on his shoulder and he kicked me in the ribs
Kelly: ahh shit
Jaylen: n-no
Kelly: hey bud it's okay. I'm right here
Miss Greene: is it normally like this?
Kelly: sometimes. We know it's a bad one when he gets violent
Miss Greene: why did he kick you?
Kelly: well after he's confused and agitated. He's still kinda out of it so he doesn't understand where he is or what's going on. Me touching his shoulder scared him and he freaked out. He's not gonna remember
Jaylen: ah fuck
Kelly: how you feeling bud?
Jaylen: head h-hurts
Kelly: I know kiddo I know
I turned to miss Greene
Kelly: I should get him home. How much do I owe you?
Miss Greene: don't worry bout it. Just take care of him. You're good to him Kelly.
Kelly: I'll see you later
Miss Greene: don't be a stranger
I helped Jaylen to the car and laid him in the backseats. While driving I phoned Jay and put him on speaker.
Jay: Kelly. Did he have a seizure? I got a notification from his watch
Kelly: yeah he's had 5 seizures
Jay: has he taken his meds?
Kelly: yep
Jay: I guess I'll get an appointment to get his meds changed
Kelly: this is gonna be the 3rd change
Jay: I know we might have to look at different options
Kelly: like what?
Jay: diet change, surgery, I don't know
Kelly: I'm gonna take him back to my place. I'm worried he's gonna have another seizure tonight and I don't want to risk anything.
Jay: how is he?
Kelly: sleeping. He erm wants to go back to school tomorrow but after today I'm not sure
Jay: just see how he feels in the morning. If he's not up by 8 don't wake just leave him to sleep.
Kelly: I got work and I know you do too so who's gonna watch him.
Jay: He'll have to come with one of us
Kelly: okay I'll speak soon
Jay: keep me updated

We arrived home. I carried him in and took him to bed. Shay made us dinner and I had a shower then fell asleep.
