Chicago Part 1

Lena: Jaylen come on we're gonna miss our flight
Today was the day I was going back to Chicago. Mom and dad's funeral was in a few days. I'm not allowed to fly by myself because of my epilepsy so Lena is coming with me
Lena: Jaylen come on we've got to get going
I ran down the stairs.
Stef: you not taking a bag or anything?
Jaylen: no I still have stuff in Chicago
Stef: right come on let's go
Stef drove us to the airport.

We got checked in and we got to skip all the queues cause I'm technically disabled. We boarded the plane and I regret not taking my ADHD meds. I was really uncomfortable and I couldn't freely stim. It was making me feel overwhelmed.
Lena: you okay?
Jaylen: I need to move
Lena: go to the toilet and back
I took my belt off and stood up
Attendant 1: excuse me you need to stay in your seat
Jaylen: I need the toilet
Attendant 1: you have to wait until we land
As she said that someone came out of the toilet
Jaylen: he just went to the toilet
Attendant 1: he's not causing any problems
Jaylen: neither am I. I just wanna use the toilet
Attendant 1: we've dealt with you people before. All you people do is cause trouble
Jaylen: what do you mean you people?
Attendant 1: people like you
Lena: hey you do not speak to him that way
Attendant 1: he's threatening and making me feel intimidated
Lena: he's a 13 year old boy. If you feel intimidated by a kid then maybe this isn't the job for you. Now I suggest you let him go to the toilet before there's a problem.
I looked around and people were recording
Attendant 1: look at him you can just tell he's a criminal
Lena: what did you just say? He's not a criminal. He's just tryna go to Chicago so he can attend his parents funeral. Does that sound like a criminal to you?
??: just let the boy go toilet. There's no need to be a racist ignorant bitch.
Lena: I'll be reporting you 'Bethany'
??: so will I

Loads of people said the same. I went to the toilet and just tried to stim as best I could with a broken arm. Lucky i have a short cast so I wasn't restricted that much. After about 10 minutes I came back out. Another attendant came over.
Attendant 2: I'm so sorry for what you have just experienced on behalf of me and the pilot we're gonna upgrade your return ticket to first class
Lena: you don't have to do that
Attendant 2: we insist. No one should have to experience that kind of abuse especially not a 13 year old boy. Please allow us to do this.
Lena: thank you very much
Attendant 2: we are also going to report this and the company will be in touch
Lena: thank you so much for your kindness
Attendant 2: young man is there anything I can get for you?
Jaylen: have you got any sweets?
Attendant 2: I'll see if I can sneak some from the pilots stash
Jaylen: thank you
She came back with some haribos
Jaylen: my favourite
She went back to the front of the plane.

We finally arrived in Chicago so I rang Jay.
Jay: you landed?
Jaylen: yeah we just landed making our way out now
Jay: okay I'm out front in a taxi lane
Jaylen: we're walking now. We're outside I can't see you.
Jay: imma beep
Jaylen: I heard it but I can't see you
Jay: hang on imma turn my lights on.
Jaylen: there's some dumbass with blue cop lights. I wonder you that is
Jay: ouch kid
I found him and ran up to him and gave him a hug
Jaylen: I missed you
Jay: I missed you too. Hi Lena how are you?
Lena: I'm good thanks Jay
We got in the car
Jaylen: Jay can we go to Miss Greene?
Jay: you sure?
Jaylen: yeah
Lena: who's Miss Greene?
Jaylen: she owns a diner and I used to go there all the time when I was younger. We pulled up to Miss greenes and I ran in
Jaylen: Miss Greene!
Miss Greene: ah Jaylen
She gave me a hug
Miss Greene: what happened to your arm?
Jaylen: broke it playing soccer
Miss Greene: you want some food?
Jaylen: yes please
Miss Greene: usual?
Jaylen: yes please and can I have apple crumble and custard as well?
Jay: fatty
I stuck my middle finger up at him
Jaylen: dumbass
Miss Greene: Jaylen
Jaylen: he is tho
Miss Greene: be nice
Jay: yeah Jaylen
Miss Greene: Jay cut it out. Do you both want anything to eat?
Jay: can I just get a vanilla milkshake please?
Lena: no thank you
Miss Greene: Jaylen you wanna come and help me?
Jaylen: sure

Lena pov
I love the bond that Jay and Jaylen have.
Jay: how's he been?
Lena: he's been okay. He's still very distant if you get what I mean.
Jay: yeah he's always been like that especially with new situations. He will definitely get better with time. This is quite a big change which he's still trying to work out.
Lena: he's definitely warmed up to me and the other kids
Jay: what about with Stef?
Lena: it's weird. When he's with me he's comfortable and his guard is mostly down but with Stef he's very standoffish and almost defensive.
Jay: that's understandable. She's a cop. His parents were cops. He doesn't want to get attached in case she dies.
Lena: but he's okay with you?
Jay: he's know me his whole life. With me I just get the anxiety cause he's already attached to me if that makes sense.
Lena: yeah kind of
Jay: over time he'll get used to it especially cause San Diego isn't as violent as Chicago. How was the flight?
Lena: it wasn't a very good experience
Jay: what happened?
Lena: he was getting restless so he wanted to got to the toilet. He stood up and a flight attendant came up and told him he had to wait till the end of the flight even though loads of people had been going. She said about people like him being trouble and feeling threatened and intimidated. I don't think he really understood what she was tryna say. Another attendant came up and apologised and for the return flight we will be in first class.
