" And I never knew I could feel that much"

Y/N Southgate- 'The Way I Loved You'

August 2, 2021

The cries of Pressley echoed through the room, stirring Y/N and Ben from their peaceful slumber. Groggy but alert, they exchanged a glance of understanding before untangling themselves from each other's embrace. Y/N reached over to tend to their daughter, soothing her with gentle whispers and comforting touches.

As the cries subsided and Pressley settled back into sleep, Y/N and Ben found themselves seated at the edge of the bed, their eyes locked in a profound exchange. The weight of the morning hung heavy in the air, urging them to address the realities of their situation.

"I didn't expect any of this to happen," Y/N confessed, her voice tinged with a mix of vulnerability and resolve. "But here we are, facing a future that is far from what we imagined."

Ben nodded, his gaze filled with a quiet understanding. "I never anticipated becoming a father at this stage of my life," he admitted. "But seeing you with Pressley, the love and care you give her, it makes me believe that we can navigate this journey together."

Y/N took a deep breath, her mind awash with thoughts of the choices that lay before them. "What about your career? Your dreams and aspirations?" she questioned, her voice laced with concern. "I don't want to be the reason you give up on what you've worked so hard for."

Ben's expression softened, his eyes locked onto Y/N's. "You're not the reason, Y/N," he assured her. "This is a new chapter, and it's one we'll write together. I want to be a part of our child's life, to be there for you, but I also believe that with the right balance, we can pursue our dreams and still be a family."

A flicker of hope sparked within Y/N's eyes, the weight of uncertainty slowly lifting from her shoulders. "I want that too," she whispered, her voice filled with conviction. "I want our child to grow up in a loving and supportive environment, where they see their parents chasing their passions and dreams."

Just as the conversation began to settle, a knock on the door interrupted the tranquility of the moment. Y/N's heart skipped a beat as she recognized the voice that followed—the voice of Mason, her childhood friend and confidant.

Tension filled the room as Y/N exchanged a hesitant glance with Ben. She rose from the bed, her steps measured and filled with trepidation, as she made her way to the door. Opening it, she was met with the sight of Mason, his eyes filled with a mix of concern and longing.

"Mason," Y/N breathed, her voice catching in her throat. "What brings you here?"

Mason hesitated for a moment, his gaze flickering between Y/N and Ben, a silent acknowledgment of the complexities of their relationship. "I heard about the baby," he finally said, his voice filled with a blend of emotions. "I couldn't stay away. I needed to see you, to know how you're doing."

Y/N's heart ached at the sincerity in Mason's voice, the reminder of the bond they had shared for so many years. But she knew that her path had taken a different turn, one that now intertwined with Ben's.

Taking a deep breath, Y/N looked Mason in the eyes, her voice filled with compassion. "I appreciate your concern, Mason," she said softly. "But there have been changes in my life, and Ben and I are navigating this together."

Mason's expression faltered, a mixture of disappointment and realization crossing his features. "I see," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

Y/N reached out, her hand gently resting on Mason's arm. "Our friendship means the world to me, Mason," she assured him. "But right now, my focus needs to be on my child and building a future with Ben."

Mason nodded, a somber acceptance settling over him. "I understand," he said, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness. "I want you to be happy, Y/N. That's all I've ever wanted."

As Mason turned to leave, Y/N's heart swelled with a mix of emotions. It was a bittersweet moment—a farewell to a friendship that had shaped her in so many ways, yet an embrace of the new beginnings that lay ahead.

Closing the door, Y/N turned back to face Ben, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. He stood there, a pillar of strength and support, ready to face the challenges and joys of their journey together.

In that moment, as Y/N and Ben embraced, they knew that the road ahead would not be easy. There would be twists and turns, moments of joy and moments of struggle. But they were united in their commitment to building a future filled with love, understanding, and the shared dream of creating a family.

As the morning sun streamed through the window, casting a warm glow upon them, Y/N and Ben held onto each other, ready to face whatever lay ahead, hand in hand.
