"I'll make myself at home and he'll want me to stay"
Y/N Southgate 'I Think He Knows'
As Y/N stirred from her slumber, she was greeted by a pounding headache that seemed to reverberate through her skull. The remnants of her drunken escapade weighed heavily on her, but something else caught her attention – a familiar scent, one that tugged at the corners of her consciousness.
Her eyes blinked open, and the unfamiliar surroundings slowly came into focus. She wasn't in her own apartment. The scent that had roused her from her sleep was unmistakable – it was the lingering aroma of Mason's cologne.
Panic briefly coursed through her, mingling with the throbbing headache, as she tried to piece together how she had ended up in Mason's new house. The last memory she could recall was stumbling through the streets of Manchester, hopelessly lost and intoxicated.
Seeking respite from her headache, Y/N reached out to her bedside table, where she found a bottle of water and a small stack of painkillers. It was then that she noticed a note placed neatly beside her, written in Mason's familiar handwriting.
"Y/N, my dear," the note began, and she couldn't help but smile at the endearment, "I had to get up early for training and I didn't want to wake you. On the table are some painkillers and water, but you probably already used them because how else would you manage to read this. My training ends at 3 pm, I'll be home at 3:30ish. Feel free to do anything if you can. Love, Mason <3."
Relief washed over Y/N as she absorbed the contents of the note. Mason was considerate even in his absence, and the thought of his return filled her with comfort and reassurance. With her headache slightly alleviated, she couldn't help but chuckle at his words about her resourcefulness.
As she reached for her phone, she was met with a barrage of missed calls and messages, mostly from Ben and the Chelsea team, all expressing concern for her wellbeing. Y/N decided to set them aside for the moment, knowing she needed to rest and recover from the previous night's ordeal.
However, one message stood out from the others. It was a text from Mason's mum, Debbie, containing a photo that warmed Y/N's heart. It depicted Pressley and Summer, Mason's niece, playing together on a football pitch, their laughter evident even in a still image.
Unable to resist, Y/N responded to the message. "They are both going to become just like Mason." She then forwarded the photo to Mason, a silent reminder of the moments he was missing with his family while pursuing his dreams on the pitch.
Glancing at the time, Y/N realized it was already late in the evening, and fatigue began to wash over her once more. The scent of Mason's cologne lingered in the air, a soothing presence that reassured her of her safety and her daughter's.
With a contented sigh, Y/N allowed herself to slowly drift back to sleep, grateful for the unexpected shelter provided by Mason's home. In the midst of uncertainty and change, there was solace in the familiarity that enveloped her, reminding her that she was never truly alone.
