"You are the best thing that's ever been mine"

Y/N Southgate 'Mine'

The next morning, Y/N woke up feeling a sense of calm wash over her. The decision she had made about her relationship with Ben still weighed on her, but in the presence of Mason, she found solace.

As the sun streamed through the curtains, Y/N and Mason decided to dedicate the day to themselves, indulging in their favorite pastime: watching movies. Y/N's choice was "Tangled," a beloved Disney classic that never failed to bring a smile to her face.

They lounged on the couch, wrapped in blankets, as the animated world of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider unfolded before them. Y/N occasionally glanced at Mason, their shared laughter and commentary filling the room. It was moments like these that reinforced the strength of their friendship.

After the movie, they decided to embark on a journey to Portsmouth, a place that held special memories for both of them. It was the city where they had met and where Y/N had spent her schooling years.

Upon arriving, Y/N and Mason were greeted by Mason's family with warm embraces and smiles. They chatted about life, shared stories, and reveled in the familiarity of being together. Mason's niece, Summer, and Pressley were bonding, their laughter filling the air as they played football and soared on the swings.

As the day drifted by, Y/N couldn't help but reflect on the life they were building together, a life that was filled with moments of joy and connection. The sense of belonging she felt with Mason's family was a testament to the depth of their friendship.

On the car ride back to Manchester, as the sky turned from vibrant blue to hues of orange and pink, Pressley piped up from her seat in the back.

"Mummy, I have to dress up as my hero for school. Can I dress up as Daddy?"

Y/N chuckled at her daughter's request and glanced at Mason, who wore the biggest grin she had ever seen on his face.

"Of course, my little Pretzel," she replied, her heart swelling with affection. "When is this dress-up day?"

Pressley attempted to say "tomorrow" but got caught up in her own excitement, causing Y/N to laugh even more. Mason quickly chimed in, "Of course, I'll help you, my little angel."

As they arrived back in Manchester, Pressley had dozed off to sleep in the back seat. She soon stirred, rubbing her eyes and looking around in confusion.

"Mumma, where's Ben?"

Y/N hesitated, unsure of how to answer. Mason, ever the considerate one, stepped in to provide an explanation.

"Mumma and Ben broke up, so you won't be seeing Ben anymore, Pressie. Is that okay?"

Pressley, her innocence shining through, responded with unwavering positivity. "That's okay! He wasn't good at reading stories anyway. Daddy's better."

Y/N couldn't help but laugh at her daughter's candidness, her heart warming at the display of resilience in her child. As they arrived home, Mason decided to make a special gesture. He presented Pressley with a complete Manchester United kit, from jersey to socks.

"You will look just like me wearing this kit," Mason said, a twinkle in his eye. "And if you want, I can wear it with you to school tomorrow."

Pressley, with all the self-centeredness of her mother, immediately protested. "NOooooooooooOOO! You're going to take all the attention away from me!"

Mason couldn't help but laugh at her response, his heart swelling with affection for the little girl who had become an integral part of his life. Under his breath, he muttered, "You are just like your mother."

Unbeknownst to him, Y/N had been watching the entire interaction and decided to join in. "Why, thank you. She is just like me." With a gentle touch, she picked up Pressley and carried her to bed, tucking her in.

Pressley drifted off to sleep, dreaming of a day where she would dress up as her hero, Mason. Y/N settled into the same bed as Mason, the familiarity of his presence offering her a sense of peace and contentment.

As they both succumbed to slumber, Mason's arms wrapped around Y/N's waist, the unspoken bond of their friendship serving as a source of strength and solace in the ever-changing landscape of their lives.
