Asia pulled bagel halves from the toaster oven and spread honey butter, cream cheese, and candied maple bacon on top of the cooked bread. She paired the bagels with scrambled cheese eggs, herb seasoned potatoes, and freshly brewed green tea with honey and mint leaves.
"Whew chile, you know you can cook up something real cute and quick too. This looks so good." Vince gave compliments to Asia as she arranged the food and tea on the white marble countertop of her kitchen island.
"Aw Vince, thank you. You know if one thing is true, I'll always feed you." Asia laughed.
"Okay Miss Mamas, let's talk about the food for this baby shower though. What's the menu going to look like? I need to call the caterer." Vince pressed, anxious to get down to business about the party plans.
"Well, I'm thinking we can do a cute little brunch menu. You know, small bites of fried chicken and waffles, fruit bouquets, frittatas, mimosas, the whole works." Asia explained.
"Yasss! I love it, cute and classy. Do you want a dress code? Are you doing a gender reveal?" Vince asked as he looked over the frames of his Prada glasses and took notes in his planning notebook.
"Hmmm, I want the dress code to just be colorful and casual. I'll be wearing white though. Oh, and I need one of those gender reveal cakes too! Nick and I already know what sex the babies will be, but our guests can find out when we cut the cake." She giggled.
"I'm loving it already! Okay, let's talk decor. What color scheme are we working with? How do you want the party to feel?" Vince continued to probe.
"We can set everything up in the backyard. I want flowers everywhere in every color you can imagine. It needs to look like a whole garden exploded out there!" Asia laughed. "Oh, and I want butterflies too. I just really want to capture the essence of summer!" She imagined as she sipped her tea.
"Oh my gahhh! Girl, this shower is going to be amazing, I can feel it already. Let me get with the watercolor artist that made your wedding invites, and I can have them made and ready to ship out in two weeks. We're having it on Saturday June 17th right?" Vince double checked for clarity.
"Yes, June 17th. But, I was thinking..." Asia began hesitantly.
"You were thinking what?" Vince asked with a playful attitude.
"Well, Nick has been really busy with getting the new studio and sneaker shop ready to open, and you know, he gets really serious when he's in work mode. He said he doesn't want a birthday party this year, but his birthday lands on Father's Day and I really feel like he deserves to be celebrated. I want to do a surprise party for him." Asia leaned in and whispered softly so that Nick wouldn't hear her and Vince's conversation from upstairs.
"Aww, that's so sweet. Yeah, we can set that up. When is Father's Day again?" Vince asked.
"June 18th. The day right after the baby shower. We can have a whole weekend of celebrating with our family and friends!" She spoke both quietly and excitedly.
"Hold on now Miss Asia. This cute lil breakfast spread you got laid out in front of me ain't gonna make me not look at you sideways right now about these lil party plans of yours." Vince frowned. "So, you trying to tell me that you want me to help you pull off a baby shower and a birthday party, slash father's day celebration all on the same weekend with only, what?" Vince frowned as he glanced at the calendar inside of his planner. "Like, one month's worth of planning time?" He asked as he crossed his arms and legs while staring at Asia with a dramatic expression of disbelief.
"Well, yes!" Asia giggled lightly.
"Honey, you are a mess and a half!" Vince smiled before taking a bite out of one of the decorated bagels.
"I'ma need you to add a lil whiskey in with this tea for what we're about to try and do." He sighed deeply.
"It will turn out great, don't worry." She reassured him. "I was thinking we could do a big seafood boil, Nick loves crab legs. We could do like a Miami tropical theme with a cigar and whiskey bar for the guys! I can ask Qua and Set to help." She expressed with a glow of happiness on her face.
"That actually sounds really heartwarming." Vince admitted. "Lawd! It's going to be hard as hell to pull off, but I can make it work." He smiled.
"Yay! See, I knew you would understand my vision." Asia exclaimed.
"Well, let me get started on getting these invitations made so we can send them out ASAP! I'll set up a tasting with the caterer so we can get the menus together. We can put in the cake and flower orders next week, and I'll start ordering the decor items for both parties this weekend. I know Deja had to work today, so I'll get with her later and fill her in on the plans so she can help me with the details." He rambled.
"Awesome! Thank you Vincey poo!" Asia squealed and giggled with excitement as she hugged him around his neck.
"Aye, what y'all down here cacklin' bout?" Nick asked as he walked into the kitchen, reached for one of the bacon covered bagels, and kissed his wife on the forehead.
"Oh, nothing babe, just making plans for the baby shower." Asia smiled innocently, as not to give Nick any suspicions about the surprise party her and Vince were planning.
"Aight, well I'ma head out, gotta meet up wit Qua at the warehouse 'bout these sneakers." Nick said before taking a bite of the savory breakfast bread.
"Oh, that's right! Today's the meeting with Jeff about the product line up right?"
"Hell yeah. I'm comin' down to tha home stretch, tryna make dis shit happen baby. You know, tha grind don't never stop."
"Everything will go great, I'm sure. Call me after, ok? Love you." Asia said as she reached out to her husband for a hug and a kiss on the lips.
"Love you too baby. Aye Vince! Take care of my girl while I'm gone. Make sure she don't get into too much, and don't let her drive dat raggedy ass Bronco neither. Issa nice day outside, I know she gone try it." He laughed as he headed to the garage door.
"Yes Sir, I got her." Vince smiled.
Asia playfully rolled her eyes at her overprotective husband and the two friends finished their breakfast and shared a few more laughs before heading to the office together.
