After 6 months of permit and licensing challenges, building renovations, electrical issues, product sourcing, brand meetings, on top of Nick sinking all of his savings plus his own blood, sweat, and tears into his new business ventures, he was finally a week away from launching both Roekado Records and Roekado Retros. Asia sat on the floor of the retail side of the building and snapped pictures with her camera to commemorate the moment as Nick and his team unboxed hundreds of rare sneakers and displayed them on the LED lit panels located on both the right and left walls of the shop. Vintage urban wear such as Karl Kani tracksuits, Girbaud jeans, and throwback NBA and FUBU jerseys hung in the center of the showroom floor. Nick highlighted a wall at the rear of the store for his Apes in Space line of t-shirts which featured a cartoon style animation of characters that he created in partnership with the Kicks Unlimited brand.
"It's looking really good in here babe! I'm so proud of you. You ready for Monday?" Asia asked her husband cheerfully.
"Yeah, jus about there. I got the electrician comin' to do a lil more work back in the studios, but yeah, everything gucci. We ready." He said in an exhausted tone.
"Well, I gotta make it to labor yoga with Jasmine in an hour and then I'm meeting Deja at the Crate and Barrel to order the bedroom furniture for the babies. I'll see you back at the house later babe. Try not to stress, you got this!" She said as she walked over to kiss and hug Nick.
"Aight babygirl. Aye, dis needa be ya last week drivin' round on ya own. Dat belly gettin' too big to be safely behind tha wheel. Get Big Ant to drive you next time." Nick warned sternly. Asia sighed deeply and agreed with her husband's cautionary advice.Asia took the 20 minute drive from the yoga studio to Lenox Road where she parked her G-Wagon truck in front of the Crate and Barrel showroom and walked in to find Deja sitting in an armchair near the front door waiting for her.
"Heyyy Booski Mama! You look like you 'bout ready to pop sis!" Deja greeted her with a big smile and a warm hug.
"Ugh, girl I know. These babies have me looking big as hell and moving slow as a snail nowadays." Asia lovingly complained as she rubbed her ballooning belly with both of her hands.
"No, you look just as beautiful as ever." Deja reassured her friend.
"Thanks Dej. You're glowing, aw, look at you! Your little bump is so cute! Are you and Qua going to find out what you're having, or wait and be surprised?" Asia asked excitedly.
"I definitely want to find out! I hope I'm having a girl so we can dress alike, have tea parties, and get our nails done together and all that." Deja giggled.
"Aw, I know, I can't wait. I can't believe we're both about to be mommies." Asia pouted sweetly.
"This is going to be such a wild ride!" Deja laughed. "So, what type of vibe are we shopping for? Do you have a theme for each room?" She asked.
"Well, Nick likes the name Jedi for the boy. So, we're doing a Star Wars theme in neutral gray tones. Just really sleek and modern." Asia explained.
"Jedi?! I know you fuckin' lying!" Deja protested with her hands on her hips. "But then again, that does sound just like a name that Nick would pick. He's always on some futuristic space type shit." Deja relaxed her face into a smile.
"Yeah, it's a unique name. I actually really like it though." Asia giggled. "And I chose Sky for the girl's name. I want to have a natural vintage style in her room with cotton and linen fabrics, whicker, and wood finishes with muted pastel colors. I want it to feel comfortable, light and airy." Asia imagined.
"Aw, yeah. That sounds like your vibe for sure." Deja smiled. The girls spent hours in the furniture store looking at cribs and bassinets, bedding, curtains, rugs, rocking chairs, and changing tables for both of the baby's rooms.
"Whew, please tell me I'm not the only one who worked up an appetite up in here?" Deja frowned as she held her stomach dramatically while whimpering with hunger.
"No girl, I'm ready to eat too! What do you have a taste for?" Asia asked.
"Ummm, pizza!" Deja laughed.
"You are such a pizza monster! Alright, let's go!" Asia laughed as she slid her American Express card over to the cashier to pay for the babies bedroom furniture. The girls left the store and made their way over to Varasano's Pizzeria where they shared a large garlic pancetta pizza and discussed both their excitement and fear about their upcoming births.
