🎵Me and My Broken Heart - Push Baby

Taehyung

She is late. It has been almost an hour past the usual time she shows up. Isn't she coming today? But she said, "See you tomorrow." Oh wait, was it me who said that? Either way, why isn't she here? Is her home situation not good? Is she okay? Should I try to find where she lives? Okay, maybe that is too far. She might think I am a stalker. All I can do now is worry about her on my own and hope that she is doing alright.

Just as I am about to give up and leave the library, I hear the door open and I quickly check to see who it is.

IT'S HER!

I try not to look too excited and sit back down. She goes to the librarian, shows her library pass, and comes and joins me on the couch. She looks tired but still gorgeous. Her bangs were slightly messy, which was quite hot, to be honest. She is wearing a short floral dress in a pale blue color making her look cute. It's rare to find a girl who can pull both looking hot and cute at the same time.

"Hello." She says in the most adorable tone ever.

"Hey." I try to sound cool. "Feeling better now?"

She nods. I'm relieved. "I went to get most of my wedding work done. Like the last bits of shopping. Finally, everything is ready. Now, all that's left to do is distribute the invitations and get married."

Ouch. Even though she seems excited about it and I am supposed to be happy about this, it ripped my heart to hear that she is getting married last night. Not like I didn't see it coming. She has been with the same guy ever since I have known her. I would be lying if I said that I didn't hope they would break up but it has always been him. It will always be him.

"Ah, well that's great." I try not to sound disappointed. "How is Liam?" I change the topic so that I don't end up making it obvious how much I hate hearing about her wedding.

"Oh, guess what. It's his birthday tomorrow so we are throwing him a small party at my apartment." Her face lightens ups just like how a lightbulb appears on the top of your head in a cartoon. She just got the best idea ever. "You should come too! Bring your Tannie too. Liam loved him and wouldn't stop talking about him."

Not the best idea Jennie. As much as I would love to spend more time with her, outside this library, it's not a good idea. It's just gonna make it harder for me to let go of her when the time comes. I don't want to go.

"Sure, I will be there." Fuck!

"Great, I will text you the address. Ah, wait, I don't have your number." She innocently takes her phone out and hands it to me to enter my name. I dial the number in and hand it to him. "Taehyung." She says to herself as she saves my number. She remembers my name. I cover my face with the book in my hand to hide my smile.

"He is turning five?"

"Six actually." She replies and I instantly start thinking of what I could get a six-year-old. What can I get Liam? What does Liam like?

"You don't have to get anything for him, okay? I just want you to be present. With Tannie of course." Is she reading my mind? Anyways, The perfect gift idea just came to my mind and tomorrow I should go buy it for Liam.

"How's everything now?" I don't know if I should ask her about her life but I just want to keep the conversation going. She thinks before replying, which I notice she does a lot. She is careful with everything she says.

"They are planning on getting a divorce."

"That's good, right?" She shrugs.

"I don't know. This is messed up. They definitely need a divorce, yes, but, they don't want a divorce. Neither of them do. That's the sad part. My sister messed up badly this time. Well, to be honest, she messed up only once in her life and that ended up being the worst."

I don't say anything and just nod. What could I possibly say about her family problems? Obviously, I see who is at fault here but I have no right to comment on it so I keep shut. She sinks into the couch, looking helpless. I wish I could just pull her closer to me and let her cry all her worries out as she lay on my chest and I would gently play with her silky smooth hair.

I wish...

"Okay, I am gonna go now. Have to go get some sleep at least today. I will see you tomorrow then."

"Sure. Take care, Jennie. Good night" She gives me a smile and walks away. I don't take my eyes off her until she is out of my sight. I keep the book aside and stare at the door. A part of me hopes that she would walk back in here but the other part of me knows she won't.

"Just ask her out." I look up, shocked that someone read my thoughts. It was the librarian. She was holding a huge stack of books so I can't really see her face but she did read the room. "I have seen you both ever since you were kids and I see the way you look at her."

"Well, you did see everything but looks like you missed the part that she has a boyfriend who she will be marrying very soon." She walks away, which is probably what I should do too. Walk away but how do I do that? Finally, after years, she is talking with me and now I am not ready to let her go. Maybe, I will just sit silently and watch her from afar. That is the best solution that wouldn't hurt either of us.

The librarian is back, this time without the books but with two mugs in her hand. She hands me one and sits beside me. "Listen, son. Do you think she wants him? Just like how I see the way you look at her, I also do see the way she looks at you. Her eyes are filled with love. It's just that she is already committed to something. That is the only thing keeping her away from telling you how she feels."

"Either way, makes no difference. Now it's too late. Imma just watch her live happily."

"And get your heart broken?" I laugh at this question. It's filled with sadness and not joy.

"It was broken the day she walked in here with him. I am used to this. Thank you though. For this and for everything." She looks at me for a few minutes, pity in her eyes, and gives me a comforting smile before going back to her counter.
