Chapter 37

Taehyung

We arrived at the hospital where Hailey was admitted after dropping off the kids at Lisa's apartment. Rose texted me her room number so we headed straight to the elevator and went up to the fourth floor. While we were inside the elevator, Jennie reminded me that we keep this a secret from her.

"Won't she suspect that something is there if she saw us together?"

"Oh, I didn't think of that. Shall I stay outside then?"

"You don't have to Jen."

"No, it's okay. I will go see her later. I will wait for you outside." I nod. We walk through the hall and finally find her room. There was a bench outside the room so Jennie sat that and I made my way inside the room. The room smelt like Detol. I hate Detol. It reminds me of Mum. It reminds me of when we used to visit her in the hospital on a daily basis until it stopped when she passed away. I see Hailey lying quietly on her bed, fast asleep. I take quiet steps towards her and sit down beside her, taking her hand onto mine. My touch woke her up.

"Tae?"

"Hi."

"What are you doing here?"

"I came to see you. What happened all of a sudden?"

"I knew this was coming Tae, which is why I let you go. I thought I could fight it but I couldn't so I decided to let go of everyone that I was holding on to because I would be leaving soon. I am sorry for forcing you into this relationship."

"Don't say that. If anyone should be sorry it's me. I shouldn't have used you to get over my feelings for her. I am so sorry Hailey."

"It's alright. It felt real at least for the past two years. You made my last few years magical so I owe you for it." She holds my hand tightly. "Thank you, Tae. Thank you for all of it. I really hope that in another life, maybe, just maybe, we could meet again and love each other all over again. Until then, please take care of yourself, take meals on time, have fun, and make mistakes but learn from them and do better and live a happy, healthy life. I love you Tae."

I really wish I could tell those three words to her in return but she and I both know that I would be lying. I respect her and do love her but not in the way she expects me to so I cannot say it. 

"Did you talk to her?" I nod. "What did she say? Is she still with Jeremy?"

"No, but she didn't give me a word. I am going to give her some time to think about it."

"She will say yes eventually. It is quite obvious. I wish I could see her one last time."

"She is outside."

"What? Why didn't she come inside?" I shrug. "Ask her to come inside and while you do that, can you get some Starbucks?" This child and her Starbucks. I nod and go back outside to find Jen sitting and staring at the blank wall in front. 

"She wants to see you. I told her you didn't give me an answer but you are outside." She gets up hesitantly but walks inside. I close the door behind her and go in search of Hailey's Starbucks.
