Jennie
I walk inside the room and find her staring in my direction with a smile. A smile that hides a lot of pain within. I can feel my eyes tearing up but I hold them back because I don't want her to feel helpless. I haven't seen Hailey looking so weak like this. Her hair was tied in a messy bun, her face bare and her body covered with the hospital robes which did no justice to her perfect body.
"Hello. It's so good to see you again. I thought I would have to leave without talking to you again."
"Leave?" She smiles more.
"To heaven. Ah, at this rate I am not sure if it's heaven or hell but wherever." I sit down beside her and look at her. She can clearly see my tears now and I don't bother hiding them anymore. "Don't cry. I am okay. I am happy to leave."
"Don't say that. I am sure you can recover soon. Take medications and treatments on time and you will be back to normal in no time."
"It's too late for that Jennie. It's too late for that." She takes my hand and holds it tight. "I need to apologize to you. For being selfish. I really thought that I could make him forget you but I couldn't. He saw you in my eyes, in my smile, in everything. It was always you Jennie so please forgive me and give him another chance. It wasn't his fault at all. Please."
She is sobbing. I am sobbing. I don't know what to do but cry. She was one of the sweetest people I met here until I ruined everything. I shouldn't have let my feelings leave my heart. I ruined our friendship. I rejected Tae and when Kai passed away, I went back to Tae when he was already in a relationship with her. It was all my fault.
"Jennie, make a promise to me. If you and Tae decide to make a child of your own and if it happens to be a girl, could you name her Hailey, please? I know it is a big request but I don't want him to forget me."
"Hailey, he would never forget you but either way, I will keep the promise. Don't worry."
"Thank you, Jennie."
She lets go of my hand and her eyes close shut.
There is a loud beep sound coming from the heart rate monitor beside her bed. I look at it and there is a straight line.
"Hailey? Hailey, wake up!" Her body doesn't move and she doesn't make any noise. I run outside and call to the nearest nurse. She rushed into the room and when she saw the monitor she called for a few more nurses and doctors. They all filled the room and started to treat Hailey. The nurse that I called, asked me to stay outside until they look into Hailey.
I sit down outside on the bench and start praying. She cannot just leave like this. Please, please keep her alive. She isn't someone who should die like this. Please, dear god, please save her.
A few minutes later, the doctors walked out of the room, with their heads held low.
"We are so sorry, but we couldn't save her." My mind went blank. My legs went numb. I fell down onto the bench.
She is gone.
