The Longest Night

The next day while out working in the fields Joseph had learned from a passing man on a horse that Wall Maria had fallen to an enormous and armored titan. After the man left in a hurry Joseph snapped the extremely strong shovel he was working with. At first he felt sorrow, sadness, and pity for the people that had and were going to die because of this. Those feelings quickly turned into a deep rage that Joseph felt in every part of his body. Some of it was at the armored and colossal titan whom Joseph knew about thanks to his previous work, he swore vengeance against them. But most of it was directed to another group, a family.

Joseph: This shouldn't have happened!! The royals! Frieda! They could have stopped this!!!! Why didn't they!?!?! Oh that's right, they somehow think this is all that we deserve this! I'm done with it, so many people dead because the royals think they deserve punishment for stuff they know nothing about!? I'm putting an end to it today! If they won't use the Founders power to save us then I will!

The very angry white haired boy threw both pieces of his now broken shovel to the ground and made his way from the fields into his house. He went up to his room and grabbed a small backpack, he threw a few things into it and threw it on his back. He went downstairs and found his dad. He asked him for permission to skip his chores for the day and do them tomorrow. He tried to have a calm demeanor but his dad could see through Joseph. But the boy simply deflected his fathers questions if everything was ok. His dad gave him permission and Joseph gave him a big hug and thanked his dad for permission to leave early. His dad hugged him back and the two both said they love each other.

Once out the door shut behind the half ghoul he immediately took off running down the dirt road. The only things that he felt were anger and determination as he knew exactly where he was going.

By the time he arrived the sun was hanging low in the sky, thanks to his work on endurance he was only a little winded and still had more than enough energy for what was to come. He had finally made it to the Riess family church, he didn't know for sure but he bet this is where they were. He took a deep breath and tried to steady his mind before he went to in. He took off his backpack and fished a mask out of it. The mask was a very simple black ski mask with mouth and eye holes.

Joseph moved his eye patch to his other eye so that way he could make sure people saw his black and red eye if he wanted. He looked at himself in a window of the church and he saw his determined self look back at him. He knew what he was there to do, he knew that he wanted to do this, he knew that he needed to do this. Joseph was not doing this just for his own selfish reasons, or for revenge although that was a small part of this. The half ghoul was going to take the founder because he believed that he could actually do good with it and save people. Something the royal family clearly cared nothing about.

So Joseph stashed his backpack in a bush and then made his way into the church and down into the crystal cavern. He saw the royal family once again draped in white performing one of their ceremonies in a circle. He made his way down to them, he didn't bother sneaking up to them, he wanted to get their attention. After he got about 15 meters from them, Frieda noticed him and immediately stopped their ceremony and faced him, the rest of the family followed suit.

Frieda: You there. Who are you? How did you find us?

Joseph remained calm, he had already decided that he was going to give the royal family one last chance.

Joseph: I am an Eldian that knows the truth. I know the secrets of the walls and what lies beyond them. I also know of the power you possess. So please......Please! End this senseless suffering! Kill the titans so we no longer have to live in fear!

Joseph had genuine emotion in his voice, he knew that this was his only chance to do things easily. Despite the fact that he hated them and resented them, deep down he did not want to kill the royal family. As he looked in front of him he saw innocent children, he did not want to kill them. But he was ready to do what needed to be done. Even if he took the Founder he knew he needed to kill the rest as well since he couldn't risk them getting control of it again.
