Despite his dream coming true, Joseph did not anticipate his wedding would come so soon. Yes, here he stood, in his black wedding suit, surrounded by his close friends near the mirror, helping him with the final touches on his tuxedo. Though nerves tingled within white-haired Scout, excitement coursed through his veins, as his heart overflowed with happiness at the prospect of marrying the girl of his dreams - the one he'd loved since childhood. However, an underlying anxiety lingered, whispering that he might be unprepared or stumble over the wrong words. Expressing emotions had never been his forte. Intrusive thoughts about the time he and Historia were in hiding crept in, the years he had hesitated to confess his feelings, nearly losing her during their training days. Thankfully, one of his friends brought him back from the brink of those obtrusive whispers in his mind.
Armin: I'm excited for you, Joseph.
Just a day has passed since Historia's coronation. In this fraction of time, the Palace was fully prepared for tomorrow's ceremony as its venue near the garden was already dressed with the decorations and flowers atop the wedding altar were caressed by the mild evening wind.
As it was starting to dusk, all Joseph's male friends were in his room. His heart was pounding just a little bit as he looked himself in the mirror trying to perfect his looks. The dressing room they were in exuded luxury with its marble walls and silver-framed mirror. However, Joseph remained oblivious to the grandeur around him, fixated solely on his reflection, unable even to focus on himself in that moment of anticipation.
Jean: Here, Joseph, lemme me get that.
Jean removed a tiny piece of thread from Joseph's shoulder and tossed it away. Joseph barely even said anything, just a tiny nod. Still seeing the nervousness infest the half-ghoul, Armin patted his shoulder.
Armin: Joseph, don't worry, this will be the best day of your life. And you already look stunning.
Joseph smiled a little and gave him an appreciative look.
Joseph: *sigh* I know, thanks Armin.
Connie: Eh, he looks alright.
Everyone stared dagger at Connie, Eren who was beside him lightly and warningly elbowed his gut. Connie put his hands up and took a step back with a sly smile.
Connie: Come on, you know I was just kidding. You look good, don't worry.
Eren: Hey, how come we have to wear suits too? This suit isn't exactly...my thing.
Armin: It's an official ceremony, and we wanna look nice for the new king and Queen on their big day.
Joseph felt a lump in his throat after these words as another thought of the upcoming wedding reemerged in his mind: he would also become an official royal. This idea would make anyone extremely joyful, but for Joseph, it only amplified his near-top anxiety.
Joseph: Please don't call me that.
Armin: Sure...your majesty.
Everyone in the room lightly snickered, with even Joseph easing up and forming a small smile from hearing his future title as he appreciated the tension break.
Then, everyone heard a knock on the door. Jean opened it and it was no other but Joseph's squadmate, Gelgar. Scout Veteran stepped into the room with an equally stunning 3-piece gray suit and a smile.
Gelgar: We are almost done out there, how's it going here?
Jean: We're ready to go out.
Joseph: Yeah, do you have the rings?
Gelgar nodded and then delved into his pocket, conducting a thorough search to no avail. His expression turned to a confused one as he searched the other pocket, then his back pockets, the breast pocket of his suit coat, but he couldn't find the ring. Meanwhile, everyone stared at the adult Scout with widening eyes, mirroring Joseph's scared reaction. reached into his pocket and searched around, but nothing. He looked into his other pocket, but nothing.
