A week had slipped away since Joseph's revelation to Commander Erwin. However, the right moment to confide in Historia remained an elusive shadow. It also started to seem that fate itself has turned away from him after exposing his authentic self: since then, his time with his second half became very limited, and even that was merely during training or when cocooning between their friends.
In parallel to that, Joseph officially became part of Miche's squad. Despite the slow start, as all of them still had reservations about him, he gained their trust and they formed friendship-like bonds together. Hange had also confided in him with excitement and anticipation about her plans to experiment on him and his ghoul abilities. However, at the moment her priority was learning everything about Eren, at least for now.
Joseph felt a genuine fondness toward Lynne, for her remarkable kindness and assistance she provided even before anyone else did.. Gelgar's occasional dumbness and love towards alcohol did not overshadow his genuineness as he took it upon himself to teach Joseph better horse riding techniques. Henning, with his thirst for combat, became a mentor of another kind, imparting upon Joseph aspects of valuable fighting techniques. Nanaba held her reservations longer than anyone else in the squad, yet with time, it turned to trust, same with Miche, with both looking forward to seeing his potential.
On one lucky night though, the evening session of their training was moved to another day, which meant they had got off earlier than expected. Once the dinner was finished and the Sun had set, Joseph pulled Christa aside.
Joseph: *whisper* Meet me in the basement mess hall tonight. I have something important to tell you.
Christa: *whisper* Ok, is everything alright? You've been acting weird ever since you got put on that squad.
Joseph: *whisper* Yeah, all good, but I need to tell you something. Meet me downstairs in a bit.
Christa: *whisper* Ok, I'll be there.
Christa's concern rippled gently within her. Very well acquainted with Joseph's demeanor, she knew his action had some unknown motive, for he would not act this way without any logical reason.
Later in the evening, when most people headed to their dorms, Christa made her way downstairs into one of the laboratories inside the building. It was pretty big and at the moment it wasn't used for anything, so it was also empty apart from a few tables and chairs with microscopes. As she opened the wooden door of the room with a small creek, she saw Joseph sitting at a table, patiently waiting for her.
Joseph: You're here. Good. Please, close the door.
She did so and then went over, sitting next to Joseph. The two shared a short kiss, as Historia went straight to the point.
Historia: So, what did you wanna talk about?
Joseph: Well...Remember our first day here when I got pulled aside by Levi at dinner?
Historia: Yeah. You said that was because they were putting you in Miche's squad.
Joseph: Yeah...
Historia: That's not what happened, right?
Joseph's eyes didn't widen for a bit as he couldn't help but chuckle and smile that his loved one already understood everything.
Joseph: How did you know?
Historia: smiled back at him.
Historia: I know you very well, Joseph. Especially, when something is up with you or bothering you. So tell me, what happened then?
Joseph had held a moment of silence, as he needed it as a last chance to think. He was struggling to piece the words together. He was worried Historia would be angry at his new squad, Captain Levi, or even Commander Erwin. Moreover, it meant that he also had to tell her about Ilse. Seeing that he was having trouble getting it out Christa gently took one of his hands and leaned a little closer, she also planted a small kiss on his cheek, all of these forming a slight blush on his face.
