Being raised in an overprotective, demanding household where your parents even critiqued your friends based on their appearances you were never allowed to hang around people that wore lots of make-up and it was especially a big no-no on dyed hair. Your parents were always quick to judge someone by their looks and they wanted you to do the same, though you just couldn't. That was the main reason why you never had friends come over since all your friends liked to wear makeup. You were never allowed to wear makeup until you reached highschool, and even then you were only allowed to wear mascara and lip balm.

Your parents wanted you to be a "good girl". They controlled nearly every aspect of your life. But that didn't stop you from being your true self when you weren't home. While you were in high school you began exploring your love life. You went on dating apps and started secretly going on dates. But that's all they were, dates.

It seemed impossible to find someone to actually call your boyfriend. You went to an all-girls school so it wasn't like you could find a guy to date there. Eventually you figured it was because you were using dating apps to find love, which definitely wasn't a reliable way to get a boyfriend. You almost gave up hope until you were finally matched with someone you were instantly drawn to.

His name was Lee Dokyeom and he was the exact opposite of your parents' standards. His hair was unnaturally straight and dyed red and his ears were pierced on both sides. He seemed tall in his pictures and his style was exactly your type. Even the jewelry he wore in his photos suited him. Your match seemed perfect, almost too good to be true, so you initiated a conversation with him to see if his personality matched his vibrant looks.

And from there the two of you messaged back and forth for a few days before either of you grew the courage to talk on the phone. As the weeks went by the two of you talked on the phone as often as possible, learning so much about each other before ever meeting in person. One day while you were talking to Dokyeom your mom walked in and asked who you were on the phone with. You were super anxious about getting caught so you said "Yeonmi" without a second thought and it surprisingly enough pacified your mom.

Your mother left the room and you resumed your conversation with Dokyeom. You apologized for calling him a girl's name then went on to explain your whole situation to him. To your amazement he was completely understanding and even mentioned you could call him that any time your parents were around. After that call you made Dokyeom's name "Yeonmi" in your phone in case your parents decided to snoop through it.

Finally after talking on the phone and texting back and forth for weeks on end the two of you decided to go on a date. By this point you were really crushing on Dokyeom and wanted to make a good impression on your first date, wearing your best clothes and leaving the house early to go put makeup on in the bathroom at the theatre. Little did you know your match felt the same way and also dressed to impress you.

The date was amazing. Dokyeom held your hand during the whole movie, making your heart flutter the entire time. You'd never felt so happy on any other date you've been on, thinking Dokyeom might be the one. Although the good feelings didn't last very long.

Dokyeom continued to hold your hand as he walked you out of the theatre. You couldn't help but stare at your date in awe, wondering how you got so lucky to match with someone so kind and handsome. Then without warning Dokyeom turned around and cupped your cheeks, kissing your lips. His lips were soft and warm. You felt like you were on cloud nine.

Until you heard someone screaming your name behind you. When you turned around it was your mother. She grabbed your arm and yanked you away from Dokyeom, her face already beet red. She called you a liar because you said you were going to the movies with a girlfriend. Your mother even accused you, yelling that you were only out past curfew to play around with boys; even calling you a "little whore."
