Like her I loved my Lord half hearted.
I played the part of a harlot well
Took God to be my own
Yet my heart never loyal
Knew His home to be safe haven
Never cared for it when all was well.
How I fled when all was well.I ran out complete and full
As Gomer chased her lovers
For food and bread.
The basics Hosea could provide
She left to find them from the others
As did I .
I went to seek joy a life of purpose
To seek friends and family
Riches and fame
What God could provide
I chased the devil for it.
I found it not my heart was torn
Like Gomer I returned home
Knocked on the door
Jesus answered and opened
Accepted my broken heart
Put it back together nursed it
Back to health
When I saw it recovered
Snatched it I did from His hands
To the world I returned to dance to its tuneHe called me back
I heeded not His voice
Diseases struck I ran to His embrace
He attended patiently till health returned
When it did away from Him
I flew like a bird.
This was I changing and unfaithful
He stood constant
Watched me break His heart
Caused my Lord to cry with all my forgetfulness.
Loved only when convenient
Yet He loved me still this I knew.As all things by nature came to end
The party no longer fulfilled me
Wealth, power and lovers
Became unsatisfactory.
Lost and alone I wondered where to go
There and then I remembered Him
My one true love my first love.
I packed all that I had acquired
Everything I held dearly
The baggage was plentiful
A burden they became.
Walking the mile till I reached home
On the door I knocked
Again He let me in.In His house He drew me a bath
To wash my sins away
As I did He opened the bags
Every item given to me
In my adulterous ways covered in filth
He burnt away casting into the chimney.
Taking out the new items He purchased when He hoped I will return
He gave me to wear
He cooked what to eat
He listened without reproach as I confessed
How I wronged Him.
He put me to sleep safe in His arms
In the house He bought for me
I knew then I was loved
I realized then how I hurt Him
I understand now how I shamed Him
I vowed never again.
Once I was like Gomer
From now I will be like Ruth
Follow till the end.
