Miles' Pov
my dad died around two years ago. we were at home when me and my mom found out

there was a villain outbreak, bad people everywhere, attacking everything. i heard hundreds of sirens then they all slowed and stopped. i constantly am looking up to my dad, i look up to him more then i do my uncle. we were watching the news as they started putting on the remembrance pages, for those who died in action. we prayed so so hard my dad wouldn't be on there. that her would walk back through our doors

but it didn't work.

Jefferson Davis Aged 44 "A hero to be remembered"

i don't want to get to deep about how we reacted when we had heard the news. his funeral was 2 weeks later. my mother chose to have a closed casket, she couldn't bear to look at his lifeless body, and who could blame her.

me and my uncle found a large wall by the police station we'd gotten permission to use and made a mural, dedicated to him.

we stayed in our home city, Chicago, for about two years before my mom got a new job offer in, you can probably guess, Brooklyn. apparently they were running short on staff at the hospitals so her job got moved there.

we argued on it for a while until i just gave up. no matter what she'd take the job, so there's no point in fighting it. i could probably make a new start here anyway. and here we are.

Y/N's Pov

"damn mom why cant you cook like this everyday?" i said as i looked at the literal feast my mom had prepared for the guests. she slapped my shoulder slightly with no response as i laughed, i sat down and pulled my phone out to look at the internet until we heard our doorbell.

i heard the guest had a son so i tried to dress somewhat nicely. i stood up and dusted of my shirt and went over the open the door.

oh shit

"oh shit" i thought to myself. on the other side of the door was a woman, long curly brown hair braided to the side, in jeans and a yellow shirt. and next to her, a boy. the same boy from my class. he also was wearing the same clothes the kid in front of me as i walked was wearing.

even if i didn't recognize him, the look on his face would've told me we'd met before. hearing my mom call my name questioningly, i snapped out of it. i walked out of the door way holding the door open as they entered.

"you must be rio!" my mom said as she went over to hug the woman my parents introduced themselves and our parents both introduced us. me and him shook hands awkwardly.

as we all sat down, me and the boy had been seated next to eachother. we were very silent compared to our parent who were very chatty with eachother. when we had all finished but our parents were still talking, i tried to make things less awkward.

"hey your in my socials class, right?" i said as he looked over "oh, yeah. back of the class right?" he said causing me to nod.

"i guess they like each other" i chuckled as i looked over to our parents having an amazing time together

my words got a slight laugh out of him. "do you want to come to my room while they talk and stuff?" i asked cautiously
he agreed and i told my parents and his mom that we were going to head to my room. our moms looked at eachother slightly smirking as they allowed us to leave.
