"oh god" i said as i jumped up, got dressed, and stuffed my books in my bag realizing i had 10 minutes before school started. My mom, Antonia, was bugging me about eating before i left.
"mija, your already going to be late, just sit down and eat." she insisted as i was rushing out.
"ma it's okay i'll just run there and plus i'm not that hungry anyways."
"te amo mami" i said as she closed the door behind me.
yes, i speak some spanish. my mom is mexican and my dad is black (jamaican to be specific). my fathers always working and spanish was my mothers first language so i just learned it mostly over time. i don't speak it's completely fluently but i'd say i knew a good amount.
as i approached the school i made my way to my locker and started putting my stuff away.
i felt a tap on my shoulder followed by my best friend, Diana saying "well hello to my least favorite person ever".
she'd gone away to a different school for a year because her parents thought this school, and me, were a bad influence on her.
to be completely honest in my opinion she's the bad influence on me, but it's whatever.
i stood there with my jaw dropped then i squealed in excitement before i jumped in her arms to hug her.
"oh my god Diana!! i missed you so so much".
"i missed you too i guess.." she said in a sarcastic tone. i rolled my eyes and started asking her what had happened.
"what happened to Grand High? did your mom let you come back?!" i asked
"not quite.." she said. i looked at her, confusion lacing my face.
she explained to me how she had been begging her mom to come back and how her mom said "the only possible way you would be able to come back is if you failed. but i know you. your smart. so there's no need to go back hon"
i realized her plan before she even had to say it "diana what?! you know how many kids would kill to be there??" i said concerned "don't get me wrong i'm super happy your back but being in that school is such a lucky chance you got!" i said disappointed.
"it just wasn't for me." she stated. "all those rich preppy losers have no fun in their lives, it's all about their butlers or their hourly allowance of 2 million dollars." she joked getting me to chuckle a bit as we started walk to our class.
we had first period, social studies, together. and luckily enough we were sat next to eachother. we watched as the class began to fill up and how it quieted down when the bell rung. we had been assigned a "get to know me slideshow" for the first day. kinda childish but i did it anyway.
