Chapter Twenty-Eight

Chapter 28:

Once I was done sorting Abhimanyu's calendar for all important appointments and meetings, I went to his office to inform him of his today's appointments. Standing at the door of his cabin, I knocked but there was no response. I know for a fact that he is still in his office so I knocked again and waited for the response

Four

Five seconds later and still no response. What is he doing inside? He can atleast respond by saying he is busy. I decided to leave but was conflicted since his next meeting was in half an hour. This time I opened the door myself and peeked in

"Um, may I come in?" I asked and saw that he was just going through some papers intensely.

"Abhimanyu?" I called. He looked up from his important papers and gave me irritated look.

"Is this how you address your boss?" he asked raising his eyebrows.

"How do you want me address you boss?" I asked "Do I call you Boss, Sir or..."

"Um.. Sir is good, you can call me Sir."

"Okay Sir, You have a meeting with Sales Team in half an hour Sir. Do you want me to book a conference room for you, Sir?"

"Yes, book the conference room and get the files from the Sales manager for this meeting."

"Okay Sir" I noticed that Abhimanyu was back to his papers even before the words left my mouth. I was just about to open the door when I remembered that I don't know where to find the Sales manager.

"Um... Where will I find the Sales manager?" I enquired

"Sales Team sits on 4th floor. You'll find the manager there" he said still looking at his papers.

I was waiting for the elevator when I noticed three girls joining me on my wait.

"I heard there is new secretary for our boss." first girl said.

Are they talking about me? Am I the said secretary? I think they are indeed talking about me.

"Poor soul, I don't know how long she will survive." said the second girl

Even I want to leave as soon as possible from here but it's not like I have a choice.

"He seems to be in a bitter mood recently, Even Meher left for her maternity leaves 2 weeks before she planned to" first girl added

So I am not the only one who thinks he is bitter. I laughed internally at my own joke. Sometimes adding to peoples conversation in your own mind is fun.

"He has managed to fire 3 secretaries in just 2 weeks, I genuinely feel bad for this new girl." third girl responded. "I think this one will last not more than a week."

Ha I wish, but I need the money and I can't stay at home not before I find a alternate solution to earn. It will take more than a week.

"I say she'll last for more than one week, wanna bet?" second girl said excitedly.

"Oh you are on Khayati" said the third girl

"What about you Gayatri? How much do you think she is going to be employed here?" second girl who I now is Khayati asked

"I'll say two weeks at most" Gayatri replied

They are placing bet on my survival with Abhimanyu Saxena as boss. Too bad I can't leave this job.

We all enter the elevator and I noticed that Gayatri and the third girl whose name I don't know yet were going to 5th floor but Khayati pressed the button to 4th floor which was the floor I was going to as well.

Soon Gayatri and the other girl left. Leaving just me and Khayati in the elevator.

Once on fourth floor I was looking at the names of the offices for sales office. I looked left and right and found the office first door to the left with Sales written on top. Just I was about to enter I noticed Khayati enter the same office.

"Hey, can you point me towards the manager of Sales team?" I asked her since was walking besides me.

"That would be me, tell me how can I help you?"

"I came here to ask for files for meeting with Abhimanyu Sir"

"Oh... Don't tell me you are the new secretary"

"Oh... Yes I am"

"I am so sorry about... you know..." she looked flustered.

"It's okay, It has been one day and I can already say he will be difficult person to assist"

"I'll give you the file one second" saying this she quickly went to location of the file which happened to be the desk in the small cabin situated in the sales section.

"Here" she gave me the file. "You have arranged the conference room I believe?" she asked

"Yes, the one on the 10th floor" I replied

"Okay, see you than" she said and busied herself in the work.

I went back to Abhimanyu's office and gave him the file.

After 15 minutes I saw him leaving for the meeting and since he didn't ask me to accompany him I assumed I was not required in the meeting. So instead I arranged the joining papers to hand it to HR department and made my way to the opposite direction from where he was headed.

"Where do you think you are going? The conference room is this way" he said

He is really getting on my nerves now.

"To submit my joining documents to HR, to complete the joining process you put in place" I grimaced.

"The meeting is about to start, you should have done that prior to that. You were aware of this meeting weren't you?"

"Since I was not informed by someone that I am required in the meeting. I decided to take up the task in hand."

"Well as secretary this is your job, isn't it?"

"Yes, but you could have still informed me about it."

"I hired you to inform me about things not the other way around."

He really doesn't believe in 'make your employee feel comfortable on their first day' ideology, does he?. I think the other secretaries left this job and he just spread rumors about him firing them to maintain his 'I'm the boos' image.

"I'll join you in the meeting, come" I said grabing a notepad and pen in case he needs me to takes as well. After all the things that has happened I'll have to take all the necessary precautions right? I rushed past him and noticed him follow me with anger radiating off him. I think he doesn't like to follow his secretary. Huh, who cares? I certainly don't.

Once in the conference, I waited for Abhimanyu to sit. It was not to respect my boss or husband just because I didn't want to disrespect him in a room full of people who happens to be his employes. I am so considerate right? Wrong, I just don't want to loose my job on my first day and go back to sitting at home like a trophy wife. Well I was more like a wife who was kept hidden from the world, not that I am known as his wife now but atleast I am on my way to create my own identity right? A new identity for the second time in my life.

Abhimanyu took his seat and since there was no other seat empty I took the seat right next to him. I kept my joining papers on top of my notepad, I forgot to keep them on my desk because of certain someone. I glanced at him and noticed his gaze fixed at the documents kept on the table, my joining letter and he seemed angry. Why get angry now? He should not have offered me the job if he was going to get this angry about it.
