Chapter 46:

Abhimanyu's POV:

It had been a long time since I took time off work to relax and enjoy life. I had been working non-stop for the last three years since I joined my dad in business, never taking a day off, not even on weekends. Taking this weekend off was a conscious decision to spend quality time with Ishita, my wife. She has always been forgetful, even during our relationship, but I never imagined she would forget about our relationship altogether. I dropped hints, trying to gauge if she was pretending or if it was genuine.

I could have confessed everything to her, but I wasn't sure what caused her to forget about me and our relationship. I didn't want to take any chances with her well-being—mental, emotional, or physical. I had already scheduled an appointment with a therapist to understand Ishita's situation and figure out how I could help her remember everything.

I canceled all my meetings for today to make room for this appointment. I couldn't risk Ishita asking me questions, as I couldn't lie to her, yet I couldn't tell her the truth either. So, I made sure to inform her about this appointment at the last minute.

"Mr. Saxena, Dhruvi Mam will see you now," the receptionist said, leading me to the room before leaving.

"Hi Dhruvi."

Dhruvi had been a reliable friend and therapist. I turned to her after Ishita left me, and my football dream was shattered. I needed both a therapist and a friend, and she filled both roles.

"Hi Abhimanyu, congratulations on your marriage."

"Thank you. I'm here to talk about my wife."

"Abhimanyu, you know that whatever you say here will never leave this room."

"I'm married to Ishita, and you're already aware of our past, right?"

"Yes."

"She doesn't remember me."

"Why do you think that?"

"She looks at me like I'm a stranger she's stuck with. It used to make me angry, but then she kissed me and said it was her first kiss. We've kissed before, and she doesn't remember it. I've tried asking her, but she only remembers me as her senior and nothing else. I'm not sure what happened to make her lock away memories of our relationship in her mind. I've been dropping hints about things we used to do, but there's been no reaction from her. I'm not sure if I should tell her everything or not. I don't want to put her in front of any harm, so I wanted to consult with you before saying anything."

"You mentioned you've been dropping hints. Can you elaborate on that?"

"While watching movies, I used to put my hand on her shoulder and write something in our code language. It was our inside joke. I tried that yesterday, but it was clear she didn't get any of it."

"I'm sorry, Abhimanyu, but I don't think you should tell her anything just yet. If her brain had locked those memories, something may have happened that traumatized her. Forcing her to remember might open floodgates she's not ready for. You'll have to be patient with her."

I felt lost. I loved her for years, and now that we were finally married, she didn't even remember me. It felt like fate was playing with me, giving me what I wanted most but making sure I couldn't truly have it.

"Is there anything I can do to make her remember me?"

"I suggest you repeat things from the past and observe her reactions. Take her to places you used to visit together or reintroduce activities you used to do. Slowly reintroduce your inside jokes and see how things go."

"You can't lose hope now, Abhimanyu. She loved you before, and she'll come to love you again. All you have to do is show her your true self. Don't hide. The Abhimanyu she fell for wore his heart on his sleeve, and while her mind might not remember, her heart will recognize you."

"I hope she does."
