Abhimanyu's POV:
As soon as I leave my cabin the first thing I notice is that Ishita is not in her desk. I should have not gone into the cabin to talk to her dad, I should have made sure that she is okay first. I call her and relax when she picks up the call after the first ring.
"Ishita, where are you?"
"I am in the cafeteria with Khyati and others"
"Okay, I am coming"
"Abhimanyu you don't have to"
"I want to. I need to see that you are okay"
"Okay"
I move quickly. I know everyone heard Mr. Malthotra yell at her and now everyone knows that she is my wife. All of them would be questioning her. I'll fire anyone who will make even one wrong comment towards her even if I have to fire the entire company.
Once I reach in the cafeteria, I immediately look for her usual table and find her seated with Khyati, Ranjit, Kashish, and Gayatri. I never bothered with employees' names apart from names of senior management I deal with on a daily basis but these are her friends in the office I'll obviously have to know their names.
She doesn't know but I have asked the management to keep the table reserved and just let her and her friends occupy it. I tried to keep it casual and subtle but nothing about my request was usual so obviously they had doubts. She loves to sit near the window and enjoy the view with her food. So there was no way I'd let her eat with the disappointment of not sitting at her favorite table.
When I reach near her, I am happy to hear her laugh. Maybe I'll not have to fire everyone. The moment her eyes land on me her smile widens and she gestures to me to take the seat next to her and like a lowly slave, I follow my queen's instructions.
"You okay?" I whisper and she looks and me with a smile and nods her head signaling that she is okay. But her eyes tell me that although she is putting up a front of being okay but she is not okay.
"We'll get back to work and leave you two alone," Khyati says and I just nod at her
One by one everyone from the table gets back to work leaving just me and Ishita. I turn toward her completely
"Are you sure you are okay? I know this is not how you wanted to tell everyone that you are my wife"
"It happened for the good. I wanted to tell them for a while now and couldn't gather the courage so it's okay. Anyways what did my dad want from you?"
I planned on not telling Ishita about whatever happened between her father and me but I can't lie to her nor can I ignore her questions. I am anyways struggling to keep our past from her I don't want to add another thing to the mix. That is the only thing I'll keep from her until I am sure that telling her the details of our past will in no way harm her. But this, the conversation between her father and me is something that might hurt her but looking at the way her father was talking to her and her reaction towards it I know it's not something that happened for the first time. I have my doubts about telling her this but I tell her anyway
"He wanted me to invest in his company to save him from going bankrupt." I wait to see her reaction suddenly doubting my decision to say no to her dad. I would have saved him but I couldn't not when he kept disrespecting my wife.
"And are you going to?"
"I would have but I am not going help someone who disrespects my wife."
"Oh"
"I can invest if you want me to though"
"Keeping the disrespect aside, would you have considered investing if this was any other company?"
"If this would have been any other company I would still not have invested. Your father's track record as a businessman has been impressive, but lately, his business decisions haven't panned out well. He even signed a contract without bothering to research the company's background. Putting money into a venture like that would have been too risky."
"And that's what you are going to do. You don't have to do anything just because he is my dad or I want you to"
"You know I would do anything for you and anyway looking at the way your dad was treating you, I have some other plans for Malhotra company now"
"What are your plans, Mr. Saxena?"
"I am not going to tell you anything, Mrs. Saxena. Now come on tell me do I need to fire anyone?"
"No, there is no need to fire anyone."
