Chapter 61 : Kidnap

Mathias woke up with a loud banging on his door.

Mathias got up from his bed and slowly made his way towards the door. He was still partially asleep and a little disoriented, but he noticed that the banging was getting louder and more insistent.

Mathias was thinking. "What's that noise? Why am I awake? It's the middle of the night. Why is someone banging on my door? Who could it be?"

He finally reached the door, and he slowly and carefully unlocked it. He took a deep breath and opened the door, only to be met by Marlin's furious stare.

"Lady Marlin? Why are you here at this hour? What are you doing waking me up in the middle of the night? Do you know what time it is?"

"I know it's late, Prince Mathias. But I came to ask you where Lady Everi is. I need to speak with her immediately. Have you seen her? Do you know where she is?"

"Lady Everi is still here somewhere in the room, Lady Marlin. Why do you need to speak with her so late at night? Surely your business can wait until tomorrow?"

"Hmm, sure .... You didn't take advantage of Lady Everi did you?", Marlin glared. She needed to know the answer because shes her friend.

Mathias sighed. "I could take you to prison if you jump to putting false accusations to a royal member my lady"

"I would like you to see you try , Mathias", Ethan stepped up in that moment. "Don't you dare try something against Lady Marlin that is"

While both of them glared at each other.

Mathias looked away not withstanding any longer . "She is a guest in this castle, and I would never do anything to hurt her or disrespect her in any way. I don't even understand what you mean by that. How could you think I would ever do such a thing?"

Mathias also added .  "And yet, I've heard tales that you and Ethan are spending quite a lot of time together recently. In fact, now you guys were alone before too right? And now you're here in the middle of the night, asking about Lady Everi?"

Marlin started stuttering, "Ah, that is......"

"You should consider yourself fortunate that I did not put my sword to your throat for being a suspect of my mother's murder. I could have killed you on the spot." Mathias gave a dark look.

Marlin was shocked and taken aback by Mathias's words. She had never seen him act in such a way, and she couldn't believe that he would ever threaten her life like that. She felt a surge of fear and paranoia wash over her, and she wondered if he really thought she could be responsible for the murder of his mother

She knew she was innocent, but would he ever believe her?

"Mathias, that's enough. Please, don't threaten Marlin like that. She would never hurt Lady Everi or cause her any harm. She just needs to speak with her, she hasn't done anything wrong."Ethan said.

"Prince Ethan... you didn't have to stick up for me. I can handle myself."

"That may be true, Lady Marlin, but I care about you and I don't like seeing you threatened or treated with suspicion. You don't deserve to be treated this way."

While both of them were talking. Mathias went back to his room to check on Everi. But when he searched here and there. There was no trace of her.

Mathias started feeling slight nervous."I've checked everywhere I can think of and still can't find Lady Everi anywhere. This is very unusual for her. Where could she be?"

Ethan heard his words ."Are you sure you didn't miss anywhere? Maybe we need to look somewhere new. And if we can't find her ourselves, we could ask someone else. They mightve seen her or know where she could be."

Marlin said ,"I'm starting to get worried. We should try checking other areas of the castle. Maybe she's in another room or hiding in a corner somewhere."

After checking their chambers and all the nearby rooms in the castle, Ethan, Marlin, and Mathias still hadn't found any sign of Lady Everi. They started to get worried, wondering what could have happened to her. Ethan suggested that they ask someone else in the castle if they had seen her or knew where she might be.

Ethan, Marlin, and Mathias made their way to Princess Sylvia's room, hoping that maybe she had some news or information that could help them find Lady Everi. They knocked on the door and waited for Sylvia to answer.

"Yes? Who is it? Oh, it's you three. What an unpleasant surprise. But what can I do for you? Have you come to visit me?"

"Actually, Princess Sylvia, we have something rather important to ask you"Marlin asked in a worry state.

"We have been looking for Lady Everi everywhere, but we still can't find her. We were wondering if you had seen her or know where she might be."  Mathias wasn't looking well when he said that.

Sylvia was surprised, another worrying incident is happening. She still spoke in a rush.

"As for your inquiry, all I know is that Lady Everi was staying in the same room as my brother. I sent Shilia to deliver a night gown to her earlier in the evening, but I wasn't informed of where she went or what her exact plans were for tonight."

Mathias fell to the floor as he uttered his concerns. He looked weary and downtrodden, as if the weight of the world was on his shoulders. He seemed to be exhausted and overwhelmed, as if he had given up hope.

Mathias was loudly expressing his concerns.

"First my mother, now Everi... what is happening? I can't believe this is really happening to me... my life is falling apart. I don't know what to do..."

He was truly at a loss for words and didn't know what else to say. It was a heartbreaking scene as he sank to the floor, as if he had no more strength left to help him in this dire situation.

Ethan grabbed his shoulders. He honestly doesn't know anything particular to lift his high spirits up but he cant let his brother back down too.

"Mathias, calm down. You need to try and look at this objectively. Lady Everi being missing isn't like your mother's murder. There must be a logical explanation for her disappearance. We just need to remain calm and work together to find her."

"Yes, Prince Ethan is right. We shouldn't panic and start jumping to conclusions. We need to try and stay positive and focus on finding Lady Everi. I'm sure it's nothing serious. We'll figure out what happened soon enough."

Sylvia started screaming when she realised Everi might have been kidnapped .

"Why must bad things keep happening to me and my family? First the concubine , my mother, now Everi... What is going on? No, this can't be happening! She can't be missing or kidnapped or God knows what!"

Sylvia started shedding tears non stop .

"Oh, what have I done to deserve all this? It can't be happening! Its really my fault . I should have told who was the killer  that time when the concubine died !!"
