Chapter 48 : Realisation

Marlin sighs, and crosses her arms in annoyance.

Marlin, feeling very hurt and also a bit annoyed here, can clearly see the look of shame and embarrassment on Ethan's face and as a result, she just feels like he's hiding something from her now. This makes her feel really hurt and really annoyed right here with him

"...Is he gonna ignore the fact that we kissed because it's meaningless to him?!"

She thinks , her inner tone is mocking and sarcastic.

You can almost feel the daggers that she's giving Ethan. Her eyes are narrowed and she's clearly angry. She rolls her eyes and gives a scoff.

"It sure sounds like it...", she thought.

When Ethan was about to touch her forehead, to check if she's alright. He is about to gently place his hand on her forehead as he asks her if she's okay. However, when she opens her mouth and says what she says next, it just completely takes him by surprise.

"I remember that I kissed you even if you say nothing happened.."

"What?" Ethan asks, his voice filled with a mix of genuine confusion and surprise and he just stops in the midst of putting his hand near her head and he turns red with embarrassment as this moment takes him.

"You- You remembered?"

Marlin looks up at him, seemingly surprised herself that what she thought was actually true.

"So you do remember that we kissed and "passionately" at that ?" She asks, and her voice sounds almost a little bit different.

Ethan was silent. But nevertheless-

"You're really going to make a big deal out of this?" Ethan asks, raising an eyebrow as his tone takes on a more scolding and authoritative tone.

His eyes look into hers with a clear, almost angry defiance, and you can feel the tension rising as the two of them face off. In a split second it suddenly seems like a very different sort of situation.

"Like I said, it's... it's embarrassing, alright? I didn't mean for you to remember!" His anger seems to be masking hurt, and the pain is visible in his eyes.

Ethan feels a wave of anxiety wash over him as he realizes that he'll have to lie just a little bit more. He sighs to himself once more.
He hesitates for a minute before saying anything. After that, he speaks and seems to force himself to seem confident through the entire thing.

"Lady Marlin, look..." He says, and then takes a breath. "You and I weren't supposed to have that happen, got it? You were under effect for gods sake!"

He says more forcefully and authoritatively.

Marlin rolls her eyes and huffs.

"Sure. Like I have no conscience in this incident"

There's a little frustration mixed into her voice, and it seems apparent that she doesn't appreciate his approach right now.

"You could have kissed anyone who was in front of you!", he added.

And that one thing was what made Marlin pissed. But she's in no position to refute. And he's a "Prince".
